Tethers...return of an idea from last year.

So one of my teamates and i were sitting around discussing how we are going to get our robot from last year so that it would serve a purpose and be competitive in this years game so we can try and enter 2 robots into IRI if that ends up being allowed, and he mentioned leaving the tape measure turret that we had on top on the robot, he was joking, but i thought it was a genius idea.

Think about this. If you had one of the really good KOH robots that can dominate the ramp and keep other people off, having a tether would be great for elimination rounds.

Say you won the first one and your working on DE-scoring the field to keep your oponents score down. Get on the ramp, lock down, and at the end of the match shoot your tether off so that your still fully on the ramp and you dont count.
Of course this would serve no purpose in a best 2 outa 3 type scenerio but in a standard stack attack type game with culumiative(i cant spell) scoring it would be a possible tool for elimination rounds.

Just a interesting idea for strategy that i thought of.

What do you guys think?

Interesting thought, but only worthwhile in elimination rounds, if you can get that far. A lot of teams were in elims because they provided something useful for qualifying rounds. Then again, you'd also have to make sure you win the first round.

I think the occurances of use would be a little low

Alot of the robots that dominate the top of the ramp did get picked for elims and yah it would only serve a good purpose in the second round of the elimination. But its just a thought for all those KOH bots heading to offseason competitions.

What about some of the competitions that are going "Best 2 out of 3" again? Tethers would be of no use there, since de-scoring yourself would be worthless.

sounds like over-engineering

if you want to dominate the top of the ramp, then do that - and at the last second drive off it.

This would be a good idea at a competition where the winner is the one w/ the highest cumulative score out of two matches... its a good way to play the "bad guy"

unfortunately IRI will be best 2 out of 3 so having a robot to de-score yourself would be almost worthless..unless you wanted to do it in elimination matches for some reason

sorry

K. Skontrianos is an unknown quantity at this point
We had a really interesting idea when the season started. We thought about building what would amount to 2 sixty pound robots that would be attached by a really long tether. One would control the ramp, the other would hit stacks. Probably not too feasible and rather risky, but worth the thought.
