Yes, you are. The toroids were made of machined cast iron (only because FIRST didn't allow steel thicker than 1/4" that year), and were very smooth. We ran CVT at fairly high speed, and did further gear reduction afterwards, so that there was never that much torque going through it. We never had any trouble with the it slipping.
