This is our first year with a transmission - pneumatically actuated, and it worked great! We have a speed sensor so we don't strip gears going from high to low. We use 2 chips and 2 drill motors on tank treads. We can do 12 fps in high and push anyone and anything in low gear. We also have a solenoid actuated drive train brake.
It was amusing to see 2 other teams getting judges awards at KSC for innovation and technical excellence for transmissions that "shift on the fly", because neither one of them actually worked at the competition! |
