What's special about my school?

It's falling apart
The windows are plastic
The bathrooms have no soap
The bathroom stalls have no doors
The fire-estingusers are marked "99" and are rusted to the walls.
Half the lights don't work
No air condisioning
The heat works during the summer - only
The Sinks in the bathrooms don't work
The lockers don't close
The computers are gutted

Cool Central HS of PHiladelphia

Our school is the second oldest school in the country, we are one of the best schools in the country, we are a fully academic school and you need a 90 or above in Middle school to get in. We also have electron microscopes, i think thats pretty cool. Our sports teams are the best in the city and we are very diverse. The only downsize is that the school exclusivly uses Crapintosh Computers, they are not compatible with any of the software from FIRST.

Also, to the all girls school, up the block from us is Philadelphia High School for Girls, another all girls school.

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

We were basketball 5A statechamps this year for Georgia.

We have 2 facilities named after people who still work there. McDonald Baseball field. Doug Liscomb Gym.

Our magnet program is one of the best in the country and is ranked 3rd for SAT prep behind the amazing Thomas Jefferson school and some other one.

My High School carries the honor of being the ONLY high school in AMERICA to have the MULE as their macot.

*wishes he could attend Cranbrook becuase he got mailed about applying. I dislike my school becuase of lack of funding in the right areas, READ: If its not a sport, they could care less*

I guess the best thing about my school is that we have the number one high school baseball team in the country. It is also where Val Kilmer and Kevin Spacey graduated from.

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

Umm...we killed a goat. Or so the legend goes. This story tells the beginning of our rivalry with Rockville High School, one of the schools involved with RAGE (no hard feelings, right?). Allegedly, before a big game, a group of our football players (read: people not quite up to the FIRST-level of intelligence) decided to steal Rockville's then mascot, which was a live goat (their mascot is the Ram.) Then, they decided to paint it out school colors, maroon and gold. Unfortunately, they painted the goat with toxic paint, and RHS's new mascot was the dead goat . Ever since, we have been rivals.

I sincerely doubt this is true, but it's all that's coming to me at the moment.

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

Highest Ranking by State of Ohio - "Excellent"
Also Ranked a United States "Blue Ribbon School"

Our school is a preengineering high school. Our classes include things like electronics(single/three phase AC + DC), CAD, CAM, machining(works well when you need to build a first robot ), metal fabrication, fluid power, PLC programming and ladder logic, and I believe they are currently working on expanding our plastics facilities so we can learn more about that(most likely to be finished after I graduate ). We are a small school with around 120 people which allows us a lot of activities that other schools can't have. Many of our classes have integrated activities, like writing reports in English about OSHA standards or creating parts for math for Statistical Process Control.

The curriculum culminates in your senior year with your senior project. Senior projects this year included as automated safety glasses mold/injector and an automated walking quadruped(can't wait to see this thing work) along with several projects that were actually assigned by several sponsoring companies and will actually be used there when they are finished. Needless to say FIRST is a competition that is right up our alley .

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

Well this fact is more to say about the town that the school is in, which the school is named after.

Along time ago the founder of the town was named ARAD. When they made the decision to name the town after ARAD. Well...... someone may a mistake and name the town as ARAB (what a mistake)

This means if you do talk like a southern, you mite think we live in the middle east. But we live in good old Heart of Dixie ! !

To say ARAB make a B sounds and the end like "bu" ARA"bu"

Special HUH

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

How did I miss this thread?

Alright, alright...something special about Irmo High School.

(a slew of possibilities come through his mind, not unlike Dave Lavery when Heidi's the caption contest subject)

Well, we were in the news around 1997-98 (or so) because the Indigo Girls were going to stage a concert in our gym, followed by an interview with The Stinger (the student newspaper). I'm fuzzy on the details, but apparently some parents got steamed (the Indigo Girls are lesbian), complained to the principal, and he cancelled the show. (They later performed a free show for high schoolers off-campus.)

Also, we have a freaking awesome AFJROTC unit. They've won the Sword of Excellence (think Chairman's, but for AFJROTC units in South Carolina) a few times. And their deputy group commander last spring wasn't too bad, either.

(True story: Last night, I went on a random Wal-Mart run with a friend of a friend. We were there, headed toward the checkout, and I bumped into the instructor, who I recently listed as a reference on a job application. He had some time doing it, though--he couldn't remember if "irresponsible" was spelled with one R or two. Then again, he says that to all the cadets--to the point that "irresponsible" is bookmarked in the dictionary in the room. I got the job, too.)

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

My school's interesting. We are really big for our sports teams, and a lot of our academic clubs. Mainly because our school is one of the best Magnet schools in the state.

Nothing too special about our school, but I don't really know about it if there is anything because FIRST is always popping into my head at school...instead of question marks swirling my mind I got triangles, circles and squares...

Our new highschool will split everyone up between the buildings... and our mascot is the panther but that doesn't seem to special... we've got freakish loads of team spirt and our rivals are the Holland Dutch... We're one of the many Holland Schools in Holland... there's Holland Christian, Holland Alternative, Holland, West Ottawa, Black River, and Corpus Christie...

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

My school is cool because of our riots. No, I'm just joking (though, on the record, this last one was not a riot...)

MSU is cool because our mascot, Sparty, is the reigning national "Best Mascot" two years running now. He went down to the competition in Florida and just kicked. Go Sparty!!!

Re: What is special about your HS, or School that you go to

We do all our classes at once for the entire year (yes .. all year i am taking 3 different maths, 2 sciences, and 1 english) ...

In grades 7 and 8, you combine all the course material from grades 7,8, and 9 (because grade 8 is typically a review year in Ontario). When you should be in grade 9, you do all grade 10 courses. When you should be in grade 10, you do all grade 11 courses. When you should be in grade 11, you do a mix of grade 11 and 12 courses. When you should be in grade 12, you do all grade 12 courses. The good thing with this program is it gives you the opportunity to do more grade 12 courses (which is what is based on for university .. Top 6 grade 12 marks made up of the prerequisites required for the program and the remaining highest marks) and in your final year, you can take less classes giving you more spares (scheduled periods without class ... so you can do what you want).

We have an experiential learning program where certain time slots are set aside in the years you should be in grade 9, 10, and 11. In this time you get to do crazy stuff like go to Japan, make gingerbread houses, learn yoga, get your CPR certificate, etc. And in the year you should be in grade 11, you finish classes in April and write your exams then, so you can go on a 2 month co-op experience, either at home or abroad.

The Bronze Duke of Edinburg Award has been built into the curriculum. So by the time you graduate, you are guaranteed to have it, if not your silver and gold. (www.theaward.com for more information)

oh .. and we are all girls ...
