Timing of nats for next year

Ok, i know i'm an even number team, so i might not even be going to nats next year, but this may affect a lot of people here.

I've heard that there's going to be a bunch of new regionals next year, meaning that nats will be pushed back some more (i understand it's already been pushed back this year). the only problem is, if you push nats back even one more week, it's almost on top of AP Testing. Now, all you canadians don't care , and anyone not in AP Classes probably doesn't care, but this could limit a lot of people from going to nats.

The solution? If nats must be pushed back more, instead of pushing it back just a week, it would have to be pushed back at least two or three (depending on how AP Testing scheduale is). I do know that schools elsewhere in the country end ealier than here in NY, but i'm not sure when, so i can't say if pushing nats back that far would have any effect on those schools' finals.

Of course, the other solution is to have like, 5 or 6 regionals a week, meaning that woody and dean would be going crazy . Oh well, hopefully nats won't conincide with anything important next year.

asher will become famous soon enough
Keep in mind they can't push it back too far, then it would be into the Disney summer season, lots more people, impossible to get hotels for everyone, ect ect. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with for next year, I'm thinking it will be earlier regionals.

I have a feeling they wont push it back anymore...

There will just be more regionals per weekend limiting you to which ones you can attend....

this year was just right

Since I teach an AP course I have a real interest in the Nats not conflicting or coming too close to the AP exams. This year the Nats were during our April break so none of the kids (or me) had to miss any classes. This really made it easier to get all the permissions we needed to go. I hope it works this way next year.

I suspect that there will be more regionals on a given week end. Not all the week ends had the same number of regionals so it is possible. Plus there are more people trained to run regionals every year. While it is nice to have Dean or Woody (Woody is REALLY great at a regional - I haven't seen Dean at one) at a regional but they are not required.

conflictions

I missed my Junior prom to be a driver this year, however, after returning I laugh at all of my friends when they ask me if I regret missing it. The experiences do not compare. Also, Nats depends on the time of Easter not other events. In 1999 Nats was the 22-24 because of an early Easter, as it was this year. I don't think that adding more Regionals will push Nats back any later than it was this year. And, to speak bluntly, do you think FIRST cares about proms and AP testing?

many people will always have to miss something for FIRST...

... but that's the price that you guys have to pay.

I just hope that Germany has vacation next year during the nationals, so that it doesn't interfear with my school too much. But I guess it will anyways, for the regionals ten at least. It might be tough to get out of school for it like for 4 days twice within 3 weeks or so, but we can just make another thingy like everybody calls up my school in Germany and tells them how important it is for us to go, and you can send emails and so on (everybody understands english, so don't be shy ;-)

We'll see what happens...

I think the best solution is to have more regionals per week since the kickoff shouldn't be done over Chirstmas or New-Year and the nats shouldn't be later because off high season for Disney etc.

Disney's money maker

For anyone wo is familiar with central Florida, the high travel time (money maker) for Disney is January 1 - May 1. This is when most people go to Florida, and therefore the large resort area has the highest rates. It would be benificial, especially to poor teams like mine, if Nats were later. Prices of accomidations where my family stayed dropped between $40-$60 the first of May, as it has the past two years.

the only way would be to be the last weekend in june. many students have regents and other such finals, ap testing, and whatnot from may 1st to the end of june. if nats was then, i would be very angry, because i would not be able to attend. for that reason, nats will either stay in april, or jump two months later, or at least that's how i see it.

Inroom testing?

It's funny, and maybe possible. I am a member of the notoriously interesting and stimulating (cough) band geeks. A few years ago we had a conflict with our State Competition and our band director actually ended up administering the AP test after the concert! I know it sounds odd, but if there are teachers who sponsor your team, it may be possible to have them act as moderator for the test in some remote area of a hotel?
