Under or Over? To tank or Not to tank that tis the question!

Posted by Chris at 1/13/2001 9:57 PM EST

Student on team #69, HYPER Team 69 Quincy Public Schools Gillette , from North Quincy High and The Gillette Company.

My questions for all of your FIRST people are very simple!

Should a team go over the 4'x6' plank and under the bar or should a team brave the never stable bridge?

My second question is should a team go with tank treads for more tork and lack of speed or go with some sort of wheel to get maximum speed and manuverability?

Write to me a cmc112784@hotmail.com

From a some of the previous posts, it seems that everyone is very interested in each other's designs - nothing new. Also, this year's game is focusing much more on cooperation than competition. So, how about a poll in which teams can check the functions that their robot will have. Maybe this poll is more appropriate a couple weeks from now. Just an early morning thought.

Hey Chris ;o)

It all depends on your main strategy really. If you are mostly concerned with moving a stretcher or a loaded goal or two (heavy objects)...you may want to go the route of tank treads to get the best grip on the carpet in my mind.

If you want to be fast and manuverable to deal with balls for instance, than wheels - similar to the drive train last year - may be a better option, sacrificing a bit of traction for the better turning and speed. Though you know better than most that I'm far from being an engineer ;o)

Good luck this season - I figure you and Nicole will be driving from what I saw last year ;o)
