Re: Can we get internet connection at events?

It depends on your event, since FIRST doesn't provide it themselves. Most convention centers have some sort of wi-fi, though you probably have to pay for it, and quality isn't always great. You're more likely to be happier tethered to someone's smartphone with an unlimited plan than to use the ambient connection.

Re: Can we get internet connection at events?

You're not supposed to arrange for it (Administrative Manual 4.15, third bullet).

There is nothing said about connecting via pre-existing networks.

Re: Can we get internet connection at events?

I interpret 4.3.1 of the Admin manual to say that any access-point style projected networks are prohibited. However, there should be no problem with a hard-tether to a data enabled smartphone. I do it every year.

Re: Can we get internet connection at events?

Almost every event has a wireless connection available for everyone there. If you don't mind sharing with several hundred other people, you'll be fine.

Re: Can we get internet connection at events?

Most of the events that I've gone to don't have any sort of public WiFi.

Our team brings two little mifi hot-spots, one for the pits and one for the scouts in the stands.
