Yahoo!

if you complete the free registration for yahoo, you get a service called Yahoo! Briefcase which I believe would fulfill your needs

yahoo

Yeah, yahoo does have the briefcase...but they limit downloads per day. One of my classes uploaded an important document into the briefcase...but after 10 or 15 people downloaded it..it wouldnt let anyone else download it until the next day...yeah i know we could have used email attachment..but it was a pretty big file...but if you dont expect 10-15 dl's per day i say go with yahoo..

also doesnt yahoo limit space to 50 megs?

Driveway has died. I used to have it and unfortunately lost most of my MP3s when it stopped it's services when I was on vacation last summer. Oh well. The company that now has space is Freedrive, I think. I just use Yahoo Photos for my photos online. It's free and easy. If you need more space, you could always use multiple accounts and link them together somehow or another.

Ok, a little off topic but...

I was wondering what hosting services those of you who own domain names use.

I'm currently looking at http://www.godaddy.com to register the domain name and http://www.hostrocket.com to host the site. Host Rocket has some very nice features, but it's a little expensive (not really, but it would be nice to find something a little cheaper). I was gonna use http://www.hosturbo.com (nice plan, low price) until I read some bad stuff about the company here.

Anyone have any suggestions?

BTW, I'm looking for a place with php, perl, at least 1 mysql db, a few subdomains, and a few email addresses. Space / data transfer isn't really important as most companies tend to offer at least 50 megs and 2 GB transfer.

A site I'm working on is hosted by OLM (http://www.olm.net), looking at your list, the only thing they don't offer is the subdomains without an additional charge...how it compares to the others you've looked at, I dunno...

You cannot rely on the free online storage services if you are serious about your important data.

Why don’t you try some good well known online backup service like IBackup?

You have features to store and share files as per your requirement with password protection.

Re: "Free" online storage.......

Wow last post was from 11/06/2001, since it's back let's update it:

Picture Hosting:
http://www.flickr.com/ - It's simply the best, tons of people use it. Especially the nerds who try everything
http://www.imageshack.us/ - Use this if you need something done quickly, it does lack the gallery feature
http://photobucket.com/ - Worthy of a mention, but Flickr is better

Video Hosting:
https://upload.video.google.com/ - It's google, it's fast, though there is a validation period for all uploads. My personal favorite
http://youtube.com/ - It's free, it's fast, nerds love, it's awesome
http://www.zippyvideos.com - It's pretty good, but gets slow at times, and limits at 20mb
http://www.putfile.com/ - It's quick, but I find it slow, and it limits to 25mb

Web Hosting:
http://hostiz.com/ - 150mb no ads!, great uptime
www.geocities.com - always has been around, pretty reliable and easy to use.
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html - Got technical skills? Broadband? A computer? Be your own server, this program makes it pretty easy (Linux, Windows, Mac, Solaris) It's All FREE! And you can still use your computer for regular functions. Just a warning, it's a lot of work if you've never done it before.
