Are we all in a WWW USFirst Webring?

My personal webpages are in a VW Beetle webring, and it is a great way to not only see other VW webpages, but to get people to come to yours.

I noticed that there was a USFIRST webring....and I noticed that only 10 sites were listed.

Is your webpage in this webring? Wouldn't it be great if ALL the webpages of USFIRST teams were included in the webring?

Think of it, we could all find each others sites real easy.

Anyways....take a look at the webring that has already bee started...look at:
http://nav.webring.org/cgi-bin/navcgi?ring=usfirst;list

Note: Like everything else...I'm sure this isn't 'official' USFirst stuff.....just another way we USFIRST competitors can get together and do some thing good for USFirst and each other.

I just looked into this webring a little, and it looks to be from back in 1998....and the host team does not even reference it anymore. (I think I looked this up correctly anyways)

Does anyone want to start another webring? I can do it, but I am not the webmaster of our main site...and only have a couple of my own personal pages. I think it would be better if the owner was a real site's webmaster. (if people think this is a good idea, and no one wants to, I can do it...no problem)

I'd be willing to join. I have an all-purpose webpage dedicated to FIRST out...some of you may have seen the picts of my team's bot on it. I attempted to join that old webring, but got no response. Though I'm not the webmaster of my team's 'official' site, I'll do what ever I can to help.

Ok....I figured I'd take the iniciative on this one. I set up a webring, and I am now in the process of coding everything. I'll post when it's ready for members, and I will also begin emailing teams from their homepages. Any suggestions for the look would be great. Either post here, or email me at alphawolf_2001@excite.com. Thanks!

Lora

Help out a poor techno backwoodsman.

Please explain a webring and what benefits accrue to those who join one.

Do advantages spread beyond the members? If so, what who else shares the wealth?

Thanks.

Webring: (n) A script that allows web sites to add to a list of sites that share a topic, and allows for links to be created on each member site to the 'next site', 'random site', etc...allowing for easy travel between sites related to each other.

as for benefits...it allows someone who happens to stumble across one team's site to visit other sites related to the Competition, in order to gather more information...

Sounds like something that could easily be solved by putting a link to the FIRST page of teams. This would also allow people to see the teams without webpages. But, then again, a webring can't really cause any harm so why not. . .

A web ring is just as it sounds.....it is a group of web pages that have something in common....and there is an organization at WWW.WEBRING.COM that help you 'organize' these similar pages by having all the pages in the group (ring) required to have a set of links on the bottom their pages that point back to other people's pages in the ring.

One of the links will generally vector you off to a random page in the ring....other links let you pick from all the pages in the ring.

Anyways...when someone visits a page....if they are interested in the content, they can use the webring links on the bottom to visit other 'like pages'.....it makes it easy for people interested in a subject to get to other pages on that subject. (others who want to be in the ring)

I have a few pages in a NEW BEETLE ring, and in the WATER COOLED VW ring.

I'm sure I am not explaining this.....you can go to my page to see what I mean...look at the bottom of:
http://www.tiac.net/users/bigqueue/html/new_beetle.html

Or better yet, go right to WWW.WEBRING.COM and look at all of the many webrings on many topics that exist.
