Rolls-Royce Jet Engine - From LEGO's
Scale Model of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 jet made from Lego's -
Rolls-Royce today unveiled the world's first jet engine to be made entirely of Lego at the opening of Farnborough International Airshow. The engine, which is one of the most complex Lego structures ever built, is a half size replica of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 which powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. http://www.rolls-royce.com/civil/new...jet_engine.jsp |

Chris - Any chance that this model will find its way to the Rolls Royce booth at the EAA this year?

And we thought sorting legos back into the kits for our camp was difficult..

Re: Rolls-Royce Jet Engine - From LEGO's
If someone modeled that in CAD, I wonder how long it would take to render...
This is someone smaller and less impressive, but should appeal to audiences everywhere: http://grabcad.com/library/10030-lego-star-destroyer |

Re: Rolls-Royce Jet Engine - From LEGO's
I wonder how they move it. It's really big (strike one), heavy (strike two), and probably reasonably fragile (strike three). Maybe take it up for a test flight on their test bed?

Re: Rolls-Royce Jet Engine - From LEGO's
it won't be at OshKosh / EAA for 2012, but I am going to work on getting it to the FIRST Championship in St, Louis for 2013.
Here is a link to a video of the engine "in action" at Farnborough. http://gizmodo.com/5925061/watch-the...gine-in-action Last edited by Chris Fultz : 12-07-2012 at 07:39. |

So yeah....I built a house out of LEGO's once.....it was small and what not. Lol. This is truly amazing and I'm still in awe.

Re: Rolls-Royce Jet Engine - From LEGO's
I was at the Farnborough Air Show and I even spent some time at the Rolls-Royce "booth" (actually huge section of one of the exhibitor buildings), but I missed this display. Bummer for me! I was too busy looking at the Joint Strike Fighter vertical lift system, which includes some bearings that I work on.
Farnborough is an engineers' dreamland. Millions of square feet of exhibitor space and lots of civil and military aircraft, both flying and on static display. The massive civil aircraft (including Airbus A380 and Boeing 787) did their version of aerobatics (steep climbs, sharp turns, low passes, touch-and-go landings, etc.) and the military aircraft showed their stuff - including full afterburner takeoffs (which set off car alarms), vertical climbs, loops, high speed low passes, etc. All very cool (and I got paid to be there). |
