#3928 Team Neutrino's NEW site

Hi guys,
I would like your comments and suggestions on the website I tossed together. I myself really like it, but I'm sad they are doing away with the website award for my first and final year of FRC :/

Anyway, please let me know your comments on our site!

www.teamneutrino.org

NOTE: A few of the pages are still under construction (ie. 2013 roster) but I'm hoping to get them done before the season starts

Nice job! Very clean design. Sponsor logos in the sidebar are a nice touch. Looks like you have a lot of nice content.

Rightfully so. Is that background custom (as in made for your team)? If so, send my kudos to that person.

I'm sure there may be a few nit-picky things here-and-there, but from what I can see, this was put together pretty well. The theme is clean and simple, the layout makes sense, and everything appears professional. Was this student designed and developed?

Judging from the hoodie in one of the pics, you have a good "branding" going on with that logo. I love it. Awesome job!

Re: #3928 Team Neutrino's NEW site

Consider making the background of the page container slightly transparent so we can see the background image behind it, since there's more to it. Try 70%.

They have a future in web design. Seriously. This is great work. I know people who've made a 5+ year career out of it and can't make it look as good as this.

TwentyEleven certainly provides a great jumping point. You've really made this your own. Nice job on the graphics as well, if they are also done by the OP.

Remember the award isn't gone, it's just rolled into the Championship Digital Media Award. The full details aren't out yet, but by the looks of you're site, I'd say you're in the running! Great job!

Re: #3928 Team Neutrino's NEW site

Thank you all for your positive feedback! I really appreciate hearing all this positive feedback! I hope I've inspired some of your teams to create much awesomer (I don't even know if that's a word, but let's keep rolling with it anyway) websites. I can't wait to see some of your websites as well!

Just wanted to toss out a few general things...
1) Wordpress is cool! I love it to death. Not only is it an easy CMS for your students to post to and use, it's also very easy to customize. I strongly encourage that you do try it if you're looking to develop a website.
2) This has by far been the most extensive work I've ever done with a website and a WordPress template.
3) I only spent ~3-4 weeks designing, coding, and deploying the theme.
4) I just started tossing a website together after seeing our old one, and telling my mentors & coach after the fact (Of course they said the same things you guys have said)
5) Below are all the questions you asked and I answered. Also, feel free to email me with any more questions you may have if you don't want to post them in the thread - david@teamneutrino.org.

Thanks again,
David

I don't know the exact details behind the background, as I copied it from our original Google Site (and I just joined the team in October for the 2013 season). Although we did infuse our logo onto the little spaceship dudes.

That is something else I LOVE and pride myself on about our site, is that is is super clean and simple. I have been working with websites for ~6-7 years now and this is by far one of the best ones I've ever designed & coded. I used the Twenty Eleven WordPress theme, but I customized the heck out of it, so it really isn't Twenty Eleven anymore.

I would also like to give kudos to a freshman on our team who, once I shared the site with him, took it, and made it better and told me what I needed to do code-wise (he even had a copy going off of the base files he tossed up on dropbox)

Also, I would like to mention that the branding is almost all from our coach.

Thanks for the suggestion, I really appreciate all of them. I will try it and see how that looks, but I might just leave it how it is, as I like the clean look and I think that might make it look a bit busy, but than again, you might prove me wrong

Thanks! I love these positive comments! I do enjoy building websites in my spare time. I've been working with website development for ~5-6 years. This one has only taken me ~1 month to build.

In addition to this site, I have actually built extensive Google Sites and a template (search "Nevada Cubs" in the templates section) for our elementary, middle, and high schools, although all of that fell through as our IT gal is going a bit on the loco side with the annoying Weebly platform.

Agreed. It has been a really nice theme to work with and to turn into our own. Thanks, I did most of the graphics (excluding the background).

I know, I just saw that last week. I think we have a good chance, especially with my social media expertise and marketing background. Thanks a bunch for your feedback. I really appreciate it.

Ew.

That's all I have to say about that.
