I am going to be visiting RIT for the Nov. 11 open house, and I was wondering what other things I should see and do in Rochester. I am getting in Thursday afternoon and leaving Sunday night. I don't intend to spend all that time hanging around the college so what else should I do?

Wow, someone's coming to RIT! Well, as far as things to do in Rochester I'm not really the best person to ask about that since I've only been here about 7 weeks and I'm not able to get off campus much. RIT is not in the city of Rochester so it makes it hard to get places without a car. Otherwise, I can tell you that there are nice Canal Cruises that run out of Pittsford (I've taken the Sam Patch and that was nice). Downtown Rochester on the river (Genese River I believe) is quite nice too. I'd offer to show you around but I may or may not being having a guest that weekend (it's up in the air at this time). If you want to meet some FIRST people I may be able to arrange it with some other people on campus that I know. Oh, btw, a FIRST team RIT is in the works and as soon as we find a sponsor we are go. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

If you are into photography, and even if you are not, the George Eastman house is a great place to visit. If memory serves correct, it is on East Ave. in Rochester, near the Science Museum (which is also a great place to visit).

Also worth the visit is Nick Tahoes, the classic Rochester eatery - although I highly recommend asking someone in Rochester about it, before you go.

And, of course, it is Rochester - so hope for good weather.

Don't worry about the weather too much. As we like to say, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it'll change......

There is alot to do in Rochester, plenty of clubs and such, not much in the way of tourist attractions though. If you ask the person giving the tour at RIT they should be able to give you directions and other information.

NICK TAHOES! You better have an iron gut to go there! Try there delicious 'Garbage Plate' covered in Frank's Red Hot Sauce.... MMMM!

The weather has been screwy lately so I suggest you bring the following...
1) Sunscreen
2) Heavy winter jacket
3) Shorts
4) Raincoat
5) Umbrella
6) Snow-blower
7) Mittens (the kind your mother pinned to your jacket
8) Frisbee
9) Walking shoes
10) Get the point?

I'm am actually going to be in rochester on thursday, but the tour isn't until saturday. Is there anything that I can't find by using yahoo maps?

There shouldn't be but be careful with Rochester. I
haven't been here that long but I've found the roads to
be quite a bit confusing. The free maps that are given
out are quite bad. Either purchase one or use the one
in the yellow pages. That map is quite good.

*Hopefully* I will be attending the open house at RIT as well, so I might see you there...wish I could help you with things to do, but I've only ever been out there once before and stayed on campus all weekend....unless you count the bus station that is =) We'll have to email and trade observations on the school afterwards =) Have fun!
