are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
so just curious if there are a lot of 50 point dumpers and climbers seen at regionals or are there mostly just 30pt climbers?

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
At Lake Superior, Robettes (2177) had a 50 pt dumper.. Worked very nicely the one time I saw it, though a disc fell out of the bot so it was only 45. I was attending Northern Lights but stopped to watch them when I walked by and knew they were a climber/dumper.

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
I heard there was a 30 point climb at San Diego, but there were several robots that looked like they were designed and built to climb that high, but didn't make it.
So in my short experience, I'd say "no". |

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
I didn't see any 50 pt. climb and dumpers at either GSR, which I watched the live feed of, or WPI, which I attended. The only disc pyramid scoring at WPI was from our robot, 558. Shooting from the floor, we averaged 3 colored disks per match. In one match, we did manage to get all 6 colored disks in the pyramid goal. We climb for 10 pts., so I guess in that match we managed a 40-pt disc-and-climb combo, albeit with shooting rather than dumping.

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
There were a fair number of teams that clearly built for that at Palmetto--Metal In Motion, EnTech GreenVillains, SPORK, TJ^2 all come to mind--but probably the most consistent of them was ROBOTZ Garage. The only failure was when their frisbee dumper elevator jammed up after falling off Level 3 the match prior, but they still made it back up.

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
The GREAT rookie team #4451 Robotz Garage can 30 point climb and dump very consistantly. They also do an auton dump I believe and are usually good for 54 point a match! They did this at both Palmetto and Orlando regionals. Very fine people as well!

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
I'm curious as to what that extra 20 points does to change the dynamic if the game. It's already been proven that the third level climb is nowhere near as decisive as expected, but what about that extra 20 points added on? Is that extra 20 pushes the robot from an asset to a necessity?

At Central Valley Regional, there was not a single one to be found.

We hope to be climbing and dumping for 50, along with an autonomous that we'll calibrate during a practice match and a close range shooter.

1025 was able to pull this off at Waterford.

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
At the Lone Star Regional there were two robots that successfully climbed for 30 but no dumpers. 148 had a system where they theoretically could go for 50, but they had issues climbing and a few falls.

Re: are there a lot of 50pt dumpers/climbers?
I've seen several robots that look like they were designed to be 50pt climber/dumpers... but only a few of them actually achieve the goal. Climbing is difficult... climbing quickly even more difficult. Once teams see you get up the pyramid for 50 pts, you can bet they'll be playing some defense against you! If the slow you down while you're retrieving the colored discs so you only have 45 seconds to climb, can you still make it up there? We saw several robots at LSR that could at least climb for 30... but if they were delayed at all, they didn't make it. At least our robot can go from floor to dumping in 20 seconds! (although we plan for 30, just in case)
