What computer system would you recommend for C++?
I'm switching from Labview to C++ and I want to purchase a new laptop that will give me minimal problems. Thanks! |

Beware of Windows 8 and WindRiver. You *can* install it, and once it's installed it works just fine -- but installation is a bit annoying. It has a weird bug in the installer that causes it to appear to be frozen during installation. In reality, you just have to kill a particular process and it resumes. Search around and someone will mention which one, I don't remember which. |

Re: Recommendations
For small projects like a robot program, Wind River runs fine on 2008 era Core 2 Duo machines. Memory (4GB) is more important than CPU at this point.
If I was buying a development machine today I'd get something with at least 4GB of RAM and an SSD. |
