Congrats to Dave Lavery
The Partnership for Public Service has named 31 federal employees or federal employee teams as Samuel J. Heyman Service to America finalists." Among those nominated are NASA's Manan Vyas for a Call to Service medal; William Borucki for the Career Achievement medal; and David Lavery and the Mars Exploration team for a Science and Environment medal. All "are contenders for eight Service to America Medals, including Federal Employee of the Year. Medal recipients will be announced Oct. 3." All of them will be honored tomorrow as part of Public Service Recognition Week.

Incredibly well deserved. My students love to hear about what is going on with Curiosity, well maybe they like the break from chemistry for a few minutes. Regardless, I am sure the entire FIRST community is standing and applauding. We appreciate and are always in awe of what you do...in only six weeks.

Thank you all for the comments. The award process has been quite unexpected and a bit interesting. It has also led to opportunities to meet some of the coolest people. At the formal announcement ceremony this morning, I got to sit next to a guy from NIST that has spent the last 25 years intentionally burning down buildings - and getting paid for it! And I thought that I had a fun job!
