Project Management Software
I feel like there was a thread about this earlier. If there was, could someone direct me towards that, otherwise...
What does your team use to keep track of the project? Everything from who is working on the sponsorship document to who is working on the CAD model? I'm looking around for some nice, free things, but I'm interested to know what's popular out there in FIRST. - Sunny G. |

Check it out. It's lightweight and pretty versatile. |

Re: Project Management Software
My former team used Teambox, which was a fantastic tool. Users can see exactly what they're assigned to, and each assignment can be sorted into different projects and sub-projects.
Worth the $5/user/month |

Re: Project Management Software
Haven't goten all the way through a season with it, but Trello has been a fantastic tool for planning out a project that may see the light of day soon enough. Create an organization, then create sub-boards, then add as necessary. iOS, Android, PC, email, all supported. And, it's free!

Re: Project Management Software
Microsoft Project is a good tool. Perhaps your school or one of your sponsors has a licensed copy you can get.
Last season I used Gantt Project. It work well for an individual user/project manager: http://code.google.com/p/ganttproject/ In the past we explored using Dot Project which is a server based project management system. Everyone who has a web browser can use it. That means everyone could update their own status on their tasks. http://www.dotproject.net/ Here's a couple of threads on the subject (search is your friend) http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=110043 http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=97214 http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=60080 Now, if only I could get our head coach to buy into Project Management. Re: Project Management Software
I'm curious about if there's anything that allows organization to take a lot of depth.
For example, let's say that I wanted to create a project (My Team), and then under that, there are tasks such as marketing, FRC, Fundraising, etc. But under those categories, there are more project, which can have departments and tasks. It may be too much to ask, but I don't see anything like it... - Sunny G. |

Re: Project Management Software
We've used Google Docs for the past couple of years. On the Chairman's side at least, we have a Google Spreadsheet with multiple sheets which have timelines, project assignments etc. but find whatever works for your team.

Re: Project Management Software
Just doing a quick google search for "online project management software" will get you many results, most free if you install it to your own server. Otherwise, owncloud is amazing. It stores files, media and it has a nice calendar that will work in iOS.

Re: Project Management Software
We’ve used Basecamp over the years, it’s simply superb for us.
One thing that we’re looking for the software though is the ability to track hours worked, hopefully they could roll out an update ASAP. Anyway, if you’re looking for more alternatives, here’s a list of over 40 project management software I came across http://blog.timedoctor.com/2011/02/0...e-alternatives. |

Re: Project Management Software
Check out the tool 'Wrike'. (wrike.com)- The founder is a huge fan of robotics and gives the non-profit discount (being free!) for a simple return: A couple of Facebook posts, website shoutout, etc. I haven't actually used the program, but I've been in contact with their founder. You definitely can't beat free!
