Posted by Brian on 1/21/2001 8:22 PM EST: yeah i think robots that go under the bar are made by ninnies who think they can pull it off... then again, if they can, then i'm the big ninny who said they couldnt. If i see bots go under the bar, and still be able to pick up balls and lift them 8ft in the air, and still be able to balance goals on the bridge, i will bow to them. (yes, i really will) -antoninny |

Engineer on team #190, Gompei, from Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science and WPI. In Reply to: QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!! Posted by Andy Grady on 1/21/2001 8:17 PM EST: I think that the number proposed before me is even a little too high. I believe that in this competition, the majority of teams will value the ability to do things on the field to score points alot more than the ability to go under the bar really quickly. I can imagine that a good number of teams will go over the bar, but I would like to see how many can actually do it in a good amount of time. So to make a long story short, yes, alot of teams will try to do it, but efficiently, I doubt that many can pull it off. Tim : Hi all, here is the question of the week. This one is given by request. While I can't come right out with a number. I will say that it is a Manchester, NH team. It isn't 131 or 40...and the HS is located on the _WEST_ side of Manchester. -Justin |

Posted by Andy Grady on 1/21/2001 8:17 PM EST: Going under the bar is somewhat like trying to put 3 balls on the side of an overturned goal... some people think that it can be done easily, but it is a lot harder than it looks. going under the bar wont be easy, and i think that only a couple of teams will be very successful with it. My guess 15 teams total. : Hi all, here is the question of the week. This one is given by request. It was also stated earlier on these forums that the WPI was considering going over the bar. Well if WPI is going over the bar then surely we must all be, because after all if WPI's doing it well it must be the way to go right?? Hampsters, Spiders, and Goats....OH MY!! -Justin |

Posted by Justin on 1/22/2001 7:32 PM EST: I think that's some of the logic RIT used in deciding to stay with the quarter's system....... They were having retention problems and some people (*cough* liberal arts *cough*) were blaiming it on the quarters system. The point was made that WPI doesn't have are problem and that they use quarters (well, shorter quarters but still quarters). Ah, the fun of silly college bureaucracies..... Matt who's glad that they stayed with quarters but thinks they used the most bizarre logic for the arguement both ways |

We also have stated 12 wheel 10 drive.... who is to say that we aren't going to go under the bar like a catepillar would, inching its way with its little legs???? seems to me that no one knows exactly what WPI is doing....but go ahead and guess what we are, it makes things fun to watch : Hmm, : Here we have a member of the WPI team denouncing teams going under the bar.
