Toughbox Mini Opinions
This year our team has decided to use the AM41U Chassis that came with the Kit of Parts. I wanted to know if using the ToughBox Mini's the Kit came with is either a good or bad idea. Our team has mixed reviews because they are plastic, but others think that since they just fix right on to the chassis, it would be simple to use them and not worry about a complex drive train. So if there are any teams with experience with these gearboxes I would gladly appreciate any input you have.
Thanks. |

Re: Toughbox Mini Opinions
Good or bad depends on your application. I have not had any durability problems with the plastic housing of the toughbox mini's.

Re: Toughbox Mini Opinions
We used them on our octocanum drive last year and had no durability issues whatsoever. We're using them again this year!

Re: Toughbox Mini Opinions
We used them all of last year and for the beginning of this year and have had no problems with the gearboxes at all.

Re: Toughbox Mini Opinions
They are fine. Unless you want to swap the internal gears out to produce a different ratio, they should do just fine as-is.
That being said, as with any gearbox, It is probably a good idea to re-grease the internals at some point during the season. |

Re: Toughbox Mini Opinions
Will keep this in mind. We were already planning on switching out the gear ratio to the 12.1 ft/sec.
