Week 5: Bumpers and Graphics

With the start of week 5, teams should be thinking about making bumpers and where to lay out the graphics for their robots.

Bumpers:

Bumpers by the rules:
Please make sure you read the current rules for the bumper section.
Section 4.6, R19 - R28.

Tips and Tricks:
Cordura 1000D is the highly recommend choice of fabric. That is a strong and smooth type of material, it will not rip and you should be able to glide off other robots with no issues. If you choose to go with a less quality fabric, your bumpers may turn out like this. Teams should be able to find some Cordura locally if you know the right spots. Conveniently, our friends over at AndyMark sell them in rolls of blue and red.

Make sure when you go to assemble the bumpers, that it should look like this from the side.

Teams have been coming up with all sorts of ways to mount the bumpers to the robot the past few years.

When you are all done and don't need those bumpers anymore, you can build something really cool!

Bumper Numbers:
Bumpers numbers are important! They are the only required way to display your teams numbers.

Teams have displayed their numbers in all sorts of ways in the past few years.

Graphics:

Graphics by the rules:
Section 4: "Teams should acknowledge the support provided by the corporate Sponsors and Mentors with an appropriate display of their school and Sponsors names and logos (or the name of the supporting youth organization, if appropriate)."

Did you know it's actually a requirement for teams to display the sponsors?

Tips and Tricks:
The best way to show off your sponsors is vinyl graphics.

You can even great real creative!
