Very nice. That's quite a limbo. Excellent use of the 2" cylinder for getting that big arm up and down. Your 'bot is multi-talented, and it looks like you will have plenty of time to practice. It looks like you would be an excellent partner. Andy B. |

Do you mean your "first thought" before you designed your robot to do this? :-) Posted by Philip at 2/8/2001 7:50 PM EST Student on team #45, TechnoKats, from Kokomo High School and Delphi. Engineer on team #45, TechnoKats, from Kokomo High School and Delphi Automotive Systems. In Reply to: Limbo-Crane.... Posted by Jim Meyer on 2/9/2001 8:51 AM EST: Jim, You have a good eye for detail. Our robot definitely can go under the bar, and hopefully will be able to pick up a big ball and place it on the goal (not both balls... I dunno where Phil got that one)... BUT... (and here's the catch) not during the same match. Our arm is removable. There may be some matches that we would be better off without it. Who knows, maybe we won't even need it, depending on how good our other features work. Since we cannot do both at the same time, I was amazed to see team 56's robot do both. Andy B. |

In Reply to: ROBBE Xtreme 2001 (team 56 pictures) Posted by Brian on 2/8/2001 9:43 PM EST: Hey there . . . that's very nice looking machine. "Oooh, that's sexy!," as an old advisor would have said. But, one thing has me concerned. It looks eerily similar to our robot. Of course, ours is ugly, as anything I work on tends to wind up that way, but it's quite similar. I guess that's a good thing, though, so I'm not complaining! Nice design, Michael |

I would like to see more detail of the different systems- like how you implemented the joins on the ball grabber. I'm also impressed by the BOT's compactness. Congrats. Rich Team# 334- NYC |

really large for going under

Student on team #192, Gunn Robotics Team, from Henry M. Gunn Senior High School. In Reply to: ROBBE Xtreme 2001 (team 56 pictures) Posted by Brian on 2/8/2001 9:43 PM EST: Hey, you finally post the pictures online! They are looking extremely sharp! And you said the arm could extend up to more then 8'? And wow, it actually can fit in the 5' limit, you are going to pre-charge the pneumatics to keep the arm up, right? You can probably put big balls up even when the bridge is balanced with goals on. And another thing, are there any pictures showing what's under the drive train? I heard something about a secret device under there to get the robot across the 4x6 under the bar. Looks like it's going to be a really good alliance partner... You can be a gatekeeper, goal handlers, as well as big balls scorer, and you will have no problem heading for the end zone... Just one or two question: How fast is the arm to fold or unfold? How fast is the robot? By the way, way to go in advertising your robot this early! |

In Reply to: ROBBE Xtreme 2001 (team 56 pictures) Posted by Brian on 2/8/2001 9:43 PM EST: Very cool design. Until I saw this pictures I was fairly skeptical that any robot going under the bar would really be able to accomplish anything. I feel rather silly for rejecting going under the bar out of hand but live and learn. I think the whole design is really neat and can't wait to see you guys in competition. Then again, I am kind of scared for my robots chances. ![]() Matt |
