Go to Post I found another student once at a Cross Country meet because she was wearing a team shirt. I must say, I was surprised. I should start wearing my team shirt around more often. - TheBoulderite [more]

Regarding extensions

It has been a rule in past years that at the beginning of a match all robots must begin UN-extended. I've taken a quick look through the rules this year but I haven't seen anything similar. Am I just missing something or has this rule been removed?

Re: Regarding extensions

R4 is the rule you're looking for. STARTING CONFIGURATION requires all appendages to be inside the frame perimeter.

Re: Regarding extensions

R4 says that STARTING CONFIGURATION means no part of a robot extends outside the frame perimeter.

Re: Regarding extensions

G4 dictates the robot must start wtihin it's STARTING CONFIGURATION.
Quote:
G4
When placed on the FIELD, each ROBOT must be:

A.in compliance with all ROBOT rules (i.e. have passed Inspection),
B.confined to its STARTING CONFIGURATION,
C.positioned such that the only contact between the ROBOT and the carpet is in their GOALIE ZONE,
or
positioned such that the only contact between the ROBOT and the carpet is in the white ZONE with the ROBOT between the TRUSS and their GOALS, and
D.fully supported by the floor.

TEAMS positioning ROBOTS in the white ZONE have precedence over opponents placing ROBOTS in the GOALIE ZONE.

Violation: If fix is a quick remedy: the MATCH won’t start until all requirements are met. If it is not a quick remedy: the ROBOT will be DISABLED and must be re-Inspected.

In the STARTING CONFIGURATION, no part of the ROBOT may extend outside the vertical projection of the FRAME PERIMETER, with the exception of minor protrusions such as bolt heads, fastener ends, rivets, etc.

Re: Regarding extensions

Rule 3.2.2 - G4
Quote:
When placed on the FIELD, each ROBOT must be:

in compliance with all ROBOT rules (i.e. have passed Inspection),
confined to its STARTING CONFIGURATION,
positioned such that the only contact between the ROBOT and the carpet is in their GOALIE ZONE,
or
positioned such that the only contact between the ROBOT and the carpet is in the white ZONE with the ROBOT between the TRUSS and their GOALS, and
fully supported by the floor.

TEAMS positioning ROBOTS in the white ZONE have precedence over opponents placing ROBOTS in the GOALIE ZONE.
Definition of STARTING CONFIGURATION:
Quote:
STARTING CONFIGURATION: The physical configuration and orientation of the ROBOT when the MATCH is started. This is the state of the ROBOT immediately before being Enabled by the Field Management System, before the ROBOT takes any actions, deploys any MECHANISMS, or moves away from the starting location. This configuration is static, and does not change during a single MATCH (although it may change from MATCH to MATCH). In the STARTING CONFIGURATION, no part of the ROBOT may extend outside the vertical projection of the FRAME PERIMETER, with the exception of minor protrusions such as bolt heads, fastener ends, rivets, etc.

If a ROBOT is designed as intended and pushed up against a vertical wall (in STARTING CONFIGURATION and with BUMPERS removed), only the FRAME PERIMETER (or minor protrusions) will be in contact with the wall.
