New FIRST Team at CMU

Posted by Ellen Cogo at 2/19/2001 3:59 PM EST

Other from Central Michigan University.

Hi everyone,
Mount Pleasant Technical Center, with a little help form Central Michigan University, is starting a team up for next year. If anyone out there attends CMU or knows FIRST alumni who do. PLEASE, Have them contact me, Ellen Cogo, at 774-5243 or e-mail me at cogo1ee@cmich.edu. We won't have a bot this year, but we do want to start fundraising...etc now. We could use your help. Also, we have yet to find a major sponsor so any help with that would be welcome too. The university is only committing to $1000.
Thanks,
Ellen

Two words: Dow Chemical... Aren't they some of the only big industry up there? I know it's in Midland, but they may be willing to help. Don't forget there are two facilities- Dow Corning and Dow Chemical. And start enlisting college tech junkies now, I bet there are a lot @ CMU who were once members of some of Michigan's great robotics teams. Also if you need any other help, don't hesistate to contact Lori and are buddies over @ FIRST. I think it's awesome that CMU has a team, now we just have to wait for u of m, msu, nmu, wmu.................

I tried to start a team at U-M two years ago but failed to get enough student interest. If anyone is interested, let me know and we can try to do it again. I would probably leave my current team to do a team at U-M while I'm still a student there (I have two more years there).

We have people at FIRST looking into Dow and people from the Tech Center looking at another company, Fanuc, that I hadn't previously heard of. Fanuc has connections with the tech center, and is already involved in a few projects with them. We're hoping their support will carry through to FIRST.

Well good luck with both, I know that Fanuc sponsored cranbrook/kingswood last year and really let them down (it's one of the nicest schools in michigan, you think they would have appreciated that). just make sure they are going to put in some work and not just money.
