Newton 2014 Pre-Scouting/Scouting Alliance

HEY GUYS,

So here at MARS team 2614 we're super pumped for worlds but obviously and this year more than ever, scouting is super duper crucial. I've compiled this list of all the teams that are on Newton along with their Season record, W/L Ratio and Average rank. Also I'd like to know if anyone out their would like to form a scouting alliance with our team because keeping 6 scouters accurate for 2 and a half days worth of qualifiers is not going to be very plausible with our team.

Hey Sidd,

I'm with team 1983, Skunk Works from Washington. I think we might be able to help you out. I'll talk to our leads, but I'm reasonably confident.

So what do you guys need? Let's see if we can help out.

Re: Newton 2014 Pre-Scouting/Scouting Alliance

Pretty much I had this vision of a scouting alliance that possibly many teams can collaborate on. I'm already talking to Team 3824 HVA Rohawktics in Knoxville, TN to see if they want to be a part of this. Essentially the key challenge I'm trying to solve with this is really man-power. a lot of our scouters will not be making it to world so I've had to pull some people from other teams who may not be as accurate as our traditional scouters. Also people will definitely get exhausted over 2 and half days of continuous scouting, so then you need more people to fill in for this. The exchange for this though would be that we would obviously share data with you guys for helping us out. But this poses another potential problem. That data that we collect may be incompatible with what your team uses to analyze. We use a pretty mediocre software ourselves to collect and analyze data with maybe the exception of the in depth friday night analysis done on an excel spreadsheet that only one of our mentors knows how to use. So to mitigate that I'm actually willing to use any teams software for collecting and analyzing data as long as its half decent. I would also need it ahead of time to take a look at it and maybe come to a conclusion on who's software we should use.

He Sidd,

Since we are comming from the Netherlands we are only bringing a small part of our team cos else it would be to expensive (only 26 ppl). So we would love to form some sort of scouting alliance. We are doing a lot of pre scouting alrdy so we will know what teams did what up to know. But since we wont have 6 stance scouts we were gonna skip stance scouting on every match and focus on our upcomming alliances and opposing alliances and try to filter out the top teams allong the way. But if we could form an alliance we could make a propper choice if we got in that situation.

greetings - Wouter

Hey Wouter and Sidd,

We are bringing a larger team than usual this year and therefore have a few extra people. Besides Friday, when the VIP tours and chairman's are happening, we can donate about 2 people. Find us in the stands on Thursday so we can figure this out a bit more.

Re: Newton 2014 Pre-Scouting/Scouting Alliance

I'd have to talk to the scouting lead on my team but I think that 3260 would be interested in this. We have a fairly small team to begin with (about 18 total) so finding scouters who are willing to watch that many matches would be interesting.

Thanks a lot, I will try to find you on wednessday already then so we can see if we can work something out. We could also just see if we could share information if any of us reach elimination and gets to pick.

Re: Newton 2014 Pre-Scouting/Scouting Alliance

Up Next 3528 would love to combine scouting resources. We have a program we like to use, but it is pretty labor intensive because we only use one laptop for data entry.

We have been very pleased with the accuracy of our data after two competitions. Message me and I will get you in touch with our scouting coordinator.

Re: Newton 2014 Pre-Scouting/Scouting Alliance

Hi Sidd--

Our team (FRC 3528 Up Next) is a relatively small team, and we are hoping to alliance with another team to scout on Newton. I sent an email to your team's email contact address with our program, and we are hoping to have 2 additional people for each time slot (with the exception of the last slot on Friday, when we need 4 people). It would be great if we could help each other out! My contact information can be found in the email I sent.

Good luck, regardless! See you on the field!
