Drivers Station Kinect - Autonomous Signaling

I know the drivers station has Kinect functionality, which can detect people and gestures in front of it. Can this be used to, for example, signal which goal is hot by putting an arm out?

I mean in the rules, not from a programming standpoint.

There is nothing against it in the 2014 rule book.

Re: Drivers Station Kinect - Autonomous Signaling

Use of the kinect for gestures was legal this year. Kinects were generally used for goalie bots, such as 1114 and 973 (I think 5136 used the Kinect as well). Hot Goal Detection could be powered by the Kinect or by Cheesy Vision, an alternate system of hybrid control.

So we are assuming there will be hot goals in 2015? Cheesy vision demonstrated that you don't even need a Kinect. The camera on the driver station works. I think this was an unconsidered consequence in 2014. I would not try to guess what the GDC will do going forward.

I am going to hope that the GDC takes things that we like a lot and implements them into future games. They should be challenging us but at the same time taking our input. Everyone likes good things to stick around

Re: Drivers Station Kinect - Autonomous Signaling

It has been legal in past years, but that is no guarantee as to whether or not it will be allowed in future years. I believe they banned the use of colored cards n autonomous in ftc....but I could be mistaken.

As FrankJ pointed out, cheesy vision did not require a kinect, it was a brilliant and simple solution to the problem. The reason you use a kinect for gesture recognition is because of the kinect's depth map.

If you want something to play around with, a brilliant freshman on our team this year wrote this up one night: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=129910
