Go to Post It's rather simple: you start with a block of solid and remove material until you just have the robot left. Kind of like making a sandcastle. Only harder. - petek [more]

New Jersey School Seeks Mechatronics Teacher

My name is Rich Panicucci and I am the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at Bergen County Technical Schools in Northern New Jersey. We have started a process to recruit a career and technical teacher for a new, state of the art high school that we will be opening in September of 2015 called Applied Technology High School. The school will be located on the campus of Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ. This high school program will provide students with a unique educational experience through a blend of academic high school curriculum, college classes, and hands-on technical training. With a curriculum that is centered on “smart machines” students will learn to apply math, science, and technology to hands-on projects in the fields of automation, electronics, and advanced manufacturing. Through this program, students will learn essential skills needed to pursue a career in a wide variety of areas including engineering technology. This training will be coupled with the dual enrollment coursework needed to allow students to earn advanced standing into several, technical associates programs at Bergen Community College including an A.A.S. program in General Engineering Technology.

We are interested in speaking with candidates that have the passion, tools, and experience to inspire and instruct students in the installation, calibration, programming, and repair of various electromechanical systems including: unmanned aerial vehicles, wheeled, and bipedal robots. Candidates should possess an associate’s degree or higher in: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Electronics Engineering, or Robotics OR at least four years of related industry experience. We are also interested in candidates who have experience and interest in working with robotic kit construction and competitions (i.e. First Robotics, Lego Mindstorm, Boe-Bots, etc.)

We would greatly appreciate it if you could forward this e-mail to any specific candidates that you feel match this profile or any organizations that you feel work with individuals that match it. This program will attempt to both address a critical workforce need for technicians to work with an increasing number of automated manufacturing and distribution systems, and inspire students who are performing at, or below grade level to consider careers in STEM.

Sincerely,

Rich Panicucci
