So I was the field operator for this match today...
Here is the final score: http://i.imgur.com/Wkq3mYw.jpg
Explanation: This happened in the first finals match of the South Central Pennsylvania Regional Qualifier today. What happened was, in autonomous, a bot on the red alliance managed to knock down their kickstand while a bot on the blue alliance was positioned directly under the chute. They had 7 extra balls stuck in their robot for the duration of the match, incurring on them 40 minor penalties. The red alliance went on to win the second match as well. |

Do you have a video for this match? I'd really like to see how the red team got 404 points without the penalty points being added.

I would think G11 would apply here, wouldn't it?

Shouldn't those have not been incurred because of the following rule?
<G11> The actions of an Alliance or their Robots shall not cause an opposing Alliance or Robot to break a rule and thus incur Penalties. Any rule violations committed by the affected Alliance shall be excused, and Penalties will not be assessed. Strategies that appear to force an opposing Alliance’s Robot to violate the rules are a violation of Gracious Professionalism and, if chronic, may result in the application of <G19>. I know if that were the students on my team they would have been questioning that one. |

Read the Q&A. This happened in our qualifier in Mississippi last weekend as well. The robots have to be designed and built in order to be able to shed balls.

What if more than five balls fell and lodged on the robot? Would the robot sit there incurring a minor penalty every 5 seconds for every excess ball for the rest of the match as outlined in <GS1>? 4. Do we need to build a roof on our robot? A1: No, the balls will remain where they fall. A2: Yes, these balls will count against 5 ball limit. A3: Yes, penalties will be incurred. A4: The design of the robot is left up to the teams. |
