Swerve Drive being used in non-robotics applications

Swerve drive for realsies applications

Looks like NASA created a swerve drive vehicle. Also gold and white, reminded me of 118 but that's probably because 118 adopted those colors from NASA.

Re: Swerve Drive being used in non-robotics applications

After some research I found that 9-10 118's mentors worked on this project. Both the project lead and chief engineer are some of 118's mentors. So maybe 118 did inspire the design?

You can read the full article here on page 23.

Neat. I also realize that the link I put is the end of the video, I can't fix that now.

I had dinner with a bunch of 118's mentors after the sac regional. They mentioned that some of the work they did at NASA was actually inspired by things they had tried out in FRC previously, namely swerve drive. Apparently 118's work on their swerve contributed to it's current popularity on NASA vehicles today.

Re: Swerve Drive being used in non-robotics applications

I understand that Boeing uses a swerve like device in the assemble of some planes. Team alumni said it was first inspired. Do not know if it was our team or another.

Doesn't the warthog in halo use swerve drive to a certain degree?

B-52 can steer all wheels together for crosswinds landings, but that predates FIRST.
