Earpiece? | Team 610

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what exactly the functions of the earpieces were in this video at 2:57-3:00 of team 610:

I was watching the video and it appears that the members of the drive team all have an earpiece. Is this used strategically or are the drive team members just listening to music?

While I wasn't personally involved with the production of that video, I know that the earpieces were previously cleared with the FTA, and were used to record the voices of the drive team.

The earpieces were used strictly for recording the voices of all the drive-team members.

There was no strategic use for them. Other than block their ability to hear their surroundings a bit, there was no real use of the ear part, other than to hold the mic portion near their mouths.
