Rules for Defenses

My team has got caught up on this, and I have been extremely curious. Does the Red Alliance set the Defences for their own side, or the side they are attacking. Both answers have good reasons for being the right answer, but for strategy sake, we need to know which one it is.
Thanks in advance.

You are setting the defenses that your enemies will go against. If you picked the defenses you went against to get to the enemy tower, then you would be able to pick the ones that you're good at, and they will not be doing their job, which is defending the enemy tower.

Re: Rules for Defenses

There is some confusion on this, because during practice matches you set the DEFENSES you want to try to CROSS - that's the purpose of practicing.

But during Quals and Playoffs you set the DEFENSES at your end of the field, that your opponents will need to CROSS.
