Favorite "psychodelic" band...

I know that a lot of engineers out there listen to the good old classic rock from those hippie days... I was wondering what bands from the 60s-70s is everyone's favorite?

My Top 3:

1) Jimi Hendrix Experience
2) Pink Floyd
3) The Doors
Close 3rd) Led Zepplin

There's a lot of fun stuff from that era. My ex has a lot of those in his CD collection. He was kind enough to share them with me.
Earth wind and fire
Steely dan
seals & croft
and-
The Doobie brother's -whom I got to meet back in '79 when I was on the front row at a benefit concert. (I was only 8 years old) Nice guys. I have one of thier origional LP's "Minute By Minute" It's not worth anything to any collectors now though because my mother got a hold of it and "censored" the picture of the doobie on the inside jacket with a permanent marker. I'm not angry though. It's proof that she loved me enough to try and protect me from bad influences.

First of all, it's "psychedelic", not "psychodelic".

Second, why do you limit psychedelic music to the 60's and 70's? I agree that it was very popular around those times, but it hasn't completely phased out...

1) Tool
2) Pink Floyd
3) a bunch of other stuff...

It's PSYCHOdelic in my eyes... some crazy lyrics and stuff... mainly because of the influence of drugs... like just listen to some of the words in The Doors songs... "Show me the way to the next little girl... oh don't ask why... if I don't find a little girl I think I'll die..." and Hendrix is the king of not making sense... I read some of his writtings like journal type stuff and it makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever... but to be grammatically correct I guess it is psychedelic...

1. TTTOOOOOOLLL
2. Led Zeppelin basically the precursor to tool
3. Pink Floyd i actually shook Rodger Waters hand.
Well tool is actually classified as industrial/neo techno but it can fit here too.

Psychedelic or not, the older music I've been listening to quite a lot lately is:

Crosby, Still, and Nash, and sometimes Young (their lyrics are amazing)
David Bowie (especially the Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars CD)
Jethro Tull (mainly the War Child CD)

MissInformation

"Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret. Are you still listening?" CSN (can't remember if Y was there)

With regard to "some crazy lyrics and stuff... mainly because of the influence of drugs... ", that's exactly what "psychedelic" is... "psychodelic" is not a word.

I have a book of Jim Morrison's poetry. I have every single studio recording, by The Doors, ever produced, a great collection of Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix, among other things.

In addition, if you even try to convince me that Third Eye (either from Salival or Aenima) or Merkaba (Salival) are not psychedelic, I will take time out of my busy schedule to laugh at you. I'm not saying that everything they do is psychedelic, but I believe they're a psychedelic band.

Perhaps Maynard is more of a visionary, though...

THe question you need to ask yourself is are drugs actually the influence behind third eye? Truth be told they arent, the song third eye is actually about shaminisim and meditation. the third eye they refers too is the shacra of preception.

I stick my hand into his shadow to pull the pieces from the sand. Which I attempt to reassemble to see just who I might have been. I do not recognize the vessel, but the eyes seem so familiar. Like phosphorescent desert buttons singing one familiar song... "So good to see you. I've missed you so much. So glad it's over. I've missed you so much. Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away?" Prying open my third eye. So good to see you once again. I thought that you were hiding. And you thought that I had run away. Chasing the tail of dogma. I opened my eye and there we were. So good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me. And you thought that I had run away. Chasing a trail of smoke and reason. Prying open my third eye.

Simply for the sake of arguement mind you, i dont mean to start a feud with a fellow tool fan i just enjoy a good debate.

I was entirely aware of the fact that Third Eye was not about psychedelics, however, the song itself is quite psychedelic. Just because a song has a subject, that does not necessarilly modify the style of the song.
