Map of Championship Teams
https://goo.gl/0mO8x8
For a different perspective on the teams coming to Worlds, the above link is a Google map showing the approximate home location of the FRC teams registered as of 4/20/16. Pin locations are approximate because FIRST only lists City, State, and Country information for each team. RB |

Re: Map of Championship Teams
One note,
Out of San Diego I see both 2485 and 1538 missing. There might be more. Looks cool though! |

Re: Map of Championship Teams
They're probably just in the same location, as FIRST only does it via City (i.e. if two teams are in the same city, the pin will drop on the exact same location for both)

Re: Map of Championship Teams
I think this is particularly interesting... I wonder how the geographical distribution changes from year to year, at least in the US.
Which also brings up an interesting question. Clearly with the majority of teams east of the Mississippi, and the next concentration of significance on the west coast, why are we doing 2 central US championships next year? (And no, I'm not including the international teams here as one would expect the cost to fly to either cost would be a minor increase, if not a decrease, to the total cost of attending in the first place.) |

Re: Map of Championship Teams
Do you have the latitudes and longitudes? If so could I have an excel doc with them. I do not have any of the rookies from this year mapped.

Re: Map of Championship Teams
Nice map!
For those who want to compare (or just love data), I made a map of all FRC teams this year, so you can eyeball and compare the distribution of teams at champs vs. all teams. https://www.google.com/fusiontables/...JFygJ#map:id=4 |

Re: Map of Championship Teams
Just from a quick eyeball glance, it looks like if the same set of teams went to 2 champs next year, the Mississippi (or a line slightly east of it) would be the divide, with international teams generally going to Texas. This would save driving distance for most teams except the Illinois/Minnesota area and Mississippi/Louisiana area.

Re: Map of Championship Teams
I had no idea that 2590 was the southern-most NJ team registered for WCMP... That blows my mind.

Re: Map of Championship Teams
I have to say, this is the first I've seen of this. Nice job.

Re: Map of Championship Teams
Great map...how hard would it be to symbolize based on how the teams punched their ticket (e.g. automatic bid, qualified this year, wait list)?
I think it'd be interesting to see the geographic distribution of the wait listed teams, and to see how that will change next year with the split championships. Oh, and not to send this thread off topic, but the reason given last year for why one of the two locations wasn't further west than Houston was that they looked, but weren't able to find a potential host city that had the right dates open. |

Very neat to see. Thanks for putting this together, Mr. Baas.
