Per se there is no requirement that states that FIRST is only available to people in high school. Even though it is intended to be for high school students. The only middle school team I know of, is team 400.

Havent you heird about FIRST Lego league. They make Lego robots. Maybe not as complex, but still you learn the creative thinking and work.

actually Lego league is a lot harder than some people realize. Because you have absolutely no interaction with your robot while it is out on the field. So you have to program it precisely(sp?) or else you could screw up your round. So if the table your team made is different than the table at the competition for some reason than you are screwed and better hope that yu have your robots programs with you at the competition.

There were a few middle schools in FIRST about 5 years ago but they didn't seem to survive. Think of how nice a program would be if they started young and had 6-7 years to develop as a team.

the definition of a first team is pre-college, so a middle school can be in FIRST. FLL is mad crazy, thoes kids get into it. Often i find it harder than FIRST for the fact that the robots are fully autonomous. In First usually you can make a driving robot and make some difference in the game, but in FLL if you just make a drive train you still need a while to program it.

Here's kind of the reciprocal of this:
Does any other state have high school lego league teams? ![]() - Katie |

High school Lego teams are NOT allowed I know that much. Because they have an age/grade level requirement. But a high school robotics team could mentor FLL teams.
Correction according to FIRST(I forgot about this) a team may consist of 9-14 year old students meaning it would be possible for Freshmen to have a team. Last edited by Jon K. : 15-10-2002 at 18:31. |

The teams don't actually compete in the FLL Program ... they have their own little divison of it or something - not exactly sure how it works. It's something with teams in WI and MN, there are 8 high school FLL teams per state between the two. Our FIRST team was asked if we wanted to particpate and we were like, "High school Lego League is FIRST ... um ..." Yeah.

Somewhere in the rules it actually states that the actual team members must attend middle school... |

Yes, I know. For FLL. But this isn't FLL - they're basically trying to run the same program but with slightly different rules for HS students. Right now, the program is only available in WI and MN ... yeah. It's not FLL, it's an FLL wanna-be. - Katie /me gives it a rest in this thread so it doesn't become closed ... |

I know that the legoleague has high school teams, about 3 high schools in new york are doing it. The only requirement is that you don't turn 15 before the first of next year
