Chesapeake Region Community Outreach Partners

Hey everyone in the CHS Region!

This summer, our team wants to host a series of summer camps and we would love to partner with other teams nearby to do it. We haven't decided the specifics (that will come after AP exams hahaha) but we would like to go ahead and see who would be interested.

Please keep me in the loop. We are starting to think about Summer Workshops for all of the FIRST programs and if there are similar things happening in other areas it would be great to know!

Re: Chesapeake Region Community Outreach Partners

I was just about to post about our summer outreach plans. Now it seems like it would make sense to share the thread, but if you want me to start a new thread instead, please let me know.
We are looking for 2-3 CHS teams to showcase their robots with us at The KID museum in Bethesda on July 16. We will bring our robot for kids to drive, and possibly some defenses or a tower to play with. There may also be other robotics related events taking place at the museum for the day, but plans have not yet been finalized.
Here is a link to the museum website with the full address, and more info on the museum itself:

We would also be interested in helping you run summer camps, but we need more info to determine our availability. Please keep us updated on the dates you are planning for.
We had a great time playing with you guys at Edgewater, and we look forward to working with you again in the future!

I'm interested in what will be going on as well! If you could keep me in the loop I can see how we could assist with things over the summer (for both outreach opportunities). You can pm me or my username @fcps.edu will get to me as well.

My team would definitely be interested, I can't promise anything because we would have to check with individual team members to find man power

My team is also interested in the Kid Museum thing. A lot of our members live nearby, so getting people shouldn't be too hard. Feel free to PM me about anything.

Re: Chesapeake Region Community Outreach Partners

Summer outreach things happening in our neck of the woods:

CNU STEM Community Day, June 4
Hampton Roads FRC teams demonstrate their robots to around 3000 visitors. A great opportunity to do some low-stress practice with your robot, and more importantly, to do some fun outreach and networking with the visitors and exhibitors. Full-size wooden practice field in the center of CNU's Freeman Center-- this really showcases FRC as the centerpiece of the event.

Triple Helix RoboCamp, July 25-August 5 (two week-long sessions)
The camp, intended for rising 5th through 8th graders, is designed to teach core computer programming logic and reasoning skills using a robotics engineering context. Campers will learn fundamental robot design and programming techniques as they build robots to complete a number of unique challenges as efficiently as possible. The camp will culminate in a fun and friendly competition.

Youth Day at NASA Langley Research Center, August 2
This year’s event includes hands-on NASA STEM activities, interactive exhibits focused on NASA research, facility tours and more.
