Re: Best low goal robot
2122 is the top that transitioned to a high goal. 1011 was also a great low goal bot.

Re: Best low goal robot
I'm not sure as far as the whole world went but in IN, here are my top 2.
71- Had a very effective scaler. The scale was essentially 2 high goals. Their cycle time was also fairly low. Their low goal auto worked about half of the time too. 1529- They also had a low goal auto that I saw work at least once at IN DCMPS. I'm not sure how well it worked at worlds. They also had really fast cycle times for scoring and showed to be a great feeder bot. They also had played some great defense at IN DCMPS too. |

Re: Best low goal robot
I'm surprised 3683 hasn't been mentioned yet. Their driver is great and their climber is fast.
Almost forgot, 5401 had a great showing as well. Very clean design, it's beautiful up close. Last edited by evanperryg : 18-05-2016 at 12:03. |

There are other excellent low goalers to name, however, including: 25 1425 639 1511 5406 To name just a few. All of these teams did excellent this season because they prioritized low goals, climbing, and driving practice over spending their resources on a high goal shooter. |

Re: Best low goal robot
Just teams I've noticed:
From the PNW- 1425 2990 4061 5803 Elsewhere- 71 836 1011 1418 3506 3604 3683 836 and 1418 dominating the CHS district championship with up to 15 low goals per match has got to be up there in terms of low goal achievements this season! |

Re: Best low goal robot
Just sorted the final version of the 4536 scouting database (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/3248) by Low goals teleop. This does not exclude teams with high goal capability.
The only superb low goal specialist I got to see in person was team 233 in Orlando, where they seeded 1st and won the event. They won the Orlando and Bayou regionals, and were finalists at the Lone Star regional and Carson subdivision. |

Re: Best low goal robot
We had a very tough time trying to defend against their effective low goal shooter at Pittsburgh. They ended up winning by 3 points against us, 3504, and 2614, in eliminations, but they ended up winning the competition. Good job 5406, it was a great match and hope to see your team in Pittsburgh next year.

Re: Best low goal robot
In terms of Chesapeake, our home district, 836 and 1418 definitely stole the show in terms of low-goal capability.
Yet, what really intrigued me was that between Finals 1 and 2, there were 0 high goals scored, and there wasn't a bot out there on the field that could score a high goal. Although this was in part due to our alliance having to bring in a backup bot, such an experience really highlights the potential effectiveness of low-goal bots this year. |

Re: Best low goal robot
Another vote for 3683 - Team DAVE out of Waterloo, Ontario.
They could comfortably solo a tower take-down with 10+ low goals, and hang at the end of a match. They could solo breach every defense, including category Cs. Their crossing speeds were elite. In conjunction with how much ball control advantage they gave their alliance, they were a very dangerous robot. I think a lot of teams got caught underestimating them because they were a low-goal robot. This is one of those robots that I wish more teams took a good look at, especially low to medium resource teams. It is a great example of how to build a really successful robot by choosing to do something simple extremely well. |

Pittsburgh is definitely a possibility for 2017, pending what they decide to do with Ontario districts. The low goal strategy was a big gamble. We knew that eventually high goal shooters would be able to put up points that would overtake us, but we figured that in early regionals at least, a low goal robot would be able to run more cycles, and therefore pickup more breach and capture ranking points. The nice surprise was that (after extra practice and the addition of an auto ball) we were able to seed pretty high through Waterloo and into Champs too. For whatever reason, Stronghold kept things pretty balanced between the low goal and high goal right to the end. I'll put my vote down for Team Dave 3683 as well. They shared our practice field, and we watched them drive rings around the defenses, scoring 7 or 8 "combined cycles" (crossing a new defense every second time). Throw in an auto ball and a fast climb, and they could hold their own against most high-goal shooters - definitely an inspiration for our team. |
