Inspirational teams
I was thinking about what teams have motivated me the most during my time in FRC and here is my list. I just wanted to give some more recognition to these teams that inspired me so much over the last 4 years. Looking at all the pointless threads on CD recently made me want to post this to help remind people that CD should be a positive environment. I would love to see what teams inspired you the most.
1: 1114. This is the team that started my love for FRC. I remember watching them at champs in 2013 and just being amazed by their robot, this was the first high level of FRC I had ever watch. I wanted to learn more about their team and at this point I know almost everything to know about 1114. All of my FRC knowledge stems from watching 1114’s amazing robot in 2013. That’s also why simbot B.A. Baracus is my favorite robot of all time. 2: 2052. 2052 is the team to beat in MN and they proved that again this year with their first Einstein appearance. When I tell new members what it takes to win in MN I always reply with “just be better than 2052 and you will win every event in MN”. Every single regional they go to they always seem to find a way to make it very far at the very least, most of the time winning the event. This is the team I always look up to when I think of local powerhouses. 3: 2056: we all know about the streak, but that isn’t the reason they’re on my list. My greatest moment in my FRC career was being picked by 2056 at IRI in 2015. It just validated all the hard work that I put into 2502 trying to make them as elite as I could during my time on the team. They’re so many other teams that have inspired me over the years, just to name a few more: 254, 5172, 2175, 1816, 1023, 67, 525, and 2826. Last edited by hutchMN : 23-07-2016 at 21:27. |

Re: Inspirational teams
For me, I'd say some personal inspiring teams are 2122, 148, and 2056. All three build really good robots and I enjoy seeing what they build every year. I'll add more teams as I think of them.

Re: Inspirational teams
No doubt for myself there are a number of teams that have been our inspiration over the last 4 seasons.
The first of all is 1816. The help that they provided during our first season was incredible. Just look at what MN is now today - the reason for this is directly due to Green Machine and their hardwork to get this state organized and their involvement (spearheading) 4 strong regionals in the state. Their kids are some of the most professional that I have worked with. They are also responsible for starting the pre-season training sessions in MN. So much of what we do in Becker is because of this group from Edina. 2175 - without a doubt we felt like they were our big brother during our first competition season. They saw in our team what we had not yet - thank you. They took us under our wing and helped us create a great defensive machine that first season. They remain one of the strongest teams in Minnesota, yet they are from a very small school. 967 - another great team that helped us out in so many ways that first and second season. The trio of 2175, 967, and 4607 almost (depending on an errant piece of field) made it to the finals for the second straight year in 2014. I still talk to a number of the parents from those teams. 2052 - Oh man, KnightKrawler. This is the team we in Becker always look to come the competition season. We strive to match their gamesmanship and strategy every year. I never sleep well the night before the Week Zero CenturionKrawler event at Centennial - I just want to know what they have up their sleeves. 3026 - This team has caught fire in the last few years, and they will be a strong competitor for years to come. They put the eventual winners of the North Star Regional on the ropes this year in the Semifinals - losing the 3rd match by 1 point. From what I saw over numerous competitions, their robot was the greatest engineering feat in MN hands down. I hear the music playing - so I must get off the stage... there are so many more that I would like to thank! Last edited by Chief Hedgehog : 28-07-2016 at 08:51. |

Re: Inspirational teams
This past year was my third as Fusion 364's lead mentor/school sponsor and our first without our beloved Tom Holderer steering the design. Through hard work and a bit of luck we partnered with the RoboWranglers #148 and Citrus Circuits #1678 at worlds.
At the Rocket City Regional, we were able to interact with Bomb Squad #16 and the Robonauts #118, loosing to their power house alliance in the finals. As a grown man, with almost 22 years of military service; these four teams inspired the heck out of me personally. Their professionalism is beyond reproach and they genuinely want all teams to do their best. |

Re: Inspirational teams
The first robot to inspire me in design was team 33's 2013 robot. It looked amazing and used every inch of space. The first team to really inspire me to be a coach was team 177 Bobcat. 118's designs always inspire me and display ideas I would have never thought of.

Re: Inspirational teams
For me, the team that has most significantly inspired is 195. Being in our area, they've helped our team grow, and also showed that CT pride with their Einstein appearance this year.

Re: Inspirational teams
1902. I have yet to see anyone who hates Exploding Bacon. From the days of Wendy Austin's living room and Dan Richardson's garage a couple doors down, they've developed a hell of a program that's held up over time and through leadership changes. If someone told me a program I started could only ever be as good as Bacon's, I wouldn't take it as an insult.

As for my inspirations, the big three are usually 254, 2056, and 1114. All three are world class teams in every respect. Playing with 118 and 16 this year, even just in a qualifier, was such a learning experience also, both went above and beyond my already sky high expectations. Other teams that I often draw inspiration from in more ways than one include 987, 971, 1678, 180, 330, 2481, 2451, and many many others. We are lucky to have so many inspiring teams in FRC. |
