FRC Tank Drive Train Coding Using F310

Hello, I am using a Logitech F310 game controller and attempting to code a tank style drive train with 2 motors on either side using Java. Does anyone have hints on how to go about this? I am completely new to programming FRC and the F310 control scheme confuses me. Thank in advance.

Here is the mapping for the F310:

So it should be Axis 1 = left side, axis 5=right side.
