Possible Coopertition Scoring

Correct me if I'm wrong but if both teams used the reserve gear in autonomous to start the center rotor the tech foul would be applied to both teams giving an 85 point autonomous without the robots. Just trying to gauge how many teams think this is a good idea and would want to do this in competitions.

Re: Possible Coopertition Scoring

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that intentionally drawing a foul is grounds for a yellow or red card.

In addition to rule violations explicitly listed in this manual and witnessed by a REFEREE, the Head
REFEREE may assign a YELLOW or RED CARD as a result of egregious ROBOT actions or Team
member behavior at the event. Please see Section 10.7 YELLOW and RED CARDS for additional detail.
If FIRST doesn't shut this strategy down before it has a chance to be put into action, I think this could be a potential risk, not that I particularly like this type of strategy anyway.

Re: Possible Coopertition Scoring

Maybe the best way to shut this down would be a simple rule change that states that using the provided gear to activate Rotor 1 in autonomous results in 0 points, though this would not have to also negate the ability to score the ranking point for activating all rotors. This should immediately dissuade any alliance from using this gear in autonomous, because once a gear is placed in an active rotor it cannot be removed, and simply placing the gear activates rotor 1. Teams would then have a very simple choice, either just wait the short 30 seconds to get the 40 points once Tele-op starts, or permanently lower the ceiling of their potential scoring by 40pts.

I don't think there needs to be any change. Two existing rules cover this easily. Pilots are not allowed the reserve gear in auto, and repeated violation of rules risks yellow and red cards.

since there is no advantage to inflating the score, it's no use to break the rule intentionally.

Re: Possible Coopertition Scoring

I don't know if it's there this year, but usually there is a rule stating that you can be given a yellow or red card by a ref if your strategy involves intentionally getting a penalty in order to exploit something.

Re: Possible Coopertition Scoring

Scoring the first rotor in autonomous gives you 60 points. Using the reserve gear during autonomous gives a 25 point tech foul. That means you would receive a net 35 points.

Waiting until teleop begins and using the reserve gear to score the rotor gives you 40 points with no foul.

Waiting until teleop gives you more points and avoids drawing fouls which are both used for a tiebreaker and can lead to a potential yellow card (for repeated violation of the rules).

Re: Possible Coopertition Scoring

There's no point in it though. Since ranking is based on W-L-T + RP, getting more points at the beginning of the game effectively keeps it tied at 0.
