[Week One] How Many Points Will Your Robot Score Solo?

Hello again everyone,

Some of you may remember that last year I posted three threads similar to this predicting robot scores. As the season wore on, we could see most teams becoming less confident in their scoring ability while some became more confident. Interestingly, by week 6, the poll results were very predictive of average match scores.

Let's see how we do this year.

This game is a bit harder to say what your own robot scored because of the way gears work and all that, just one thing to keep in mind.

I believe that your greater than threshold score is too low. To get to 130 you only need two gears in teleop, and a climb (including the reserve gear of course). I believe that many teams can do way better than that.

I agree, I could see teams on their own reaching over 300 by the end of the season.

If your robot wins matches by itself, is that 2 RP?

I think it's a bit disingenuous to say that the 40 points the entire alliance gets for the "free" gear in the tower are points "your robot" scored.

Two gears and a climb is a good average contribution, for a week 1 qualifications match. Teams should aim higher but expect that.

What I consider to be a single robot's contribution is what the score would be if it was the only team to show up to a match. This is only counting two gears in teleop, if they got an additional one in auto then that would put them at 190, no reserve gear or fuel needed.

Edit: 150 not 190

Re: [Week One] How Many Points Will Your Robot Score Solo?

Most gearbots (I hope) should be able to get 3 rotors, one in teleop and two in auto, for 140 points. If you have a climber, that's another easy 50 points. Do that, you have 190, much higher than the scoring threshold.

BTW, how would you get 130 + an RP by yourself? The main way you would do that is 40 kpa in auto, then switch to gears for most of the rest of the match... good strat, but at the same time pretty hard to feasibly accomplish.

Re: [Week One] How Many Points Will Your Robot Score Solo?

I think everyone should be careful. Last year, a "good" defensive bot was supposed to be able to cross every defense, doing one in auto, and climb. Unfortunately, you were hard pressed to find a robot that could do all of that in most qualifications.

Re: [Week One] How Many Points Will Your Robot Score Solo?

I think the 130pts is about right for " week one" average winning score in qualifying.
