Exclamation New RoboRio image missing code

We attempted to update our first RoboRio with the 2017 Image/firmware today and inherited a new error. After installing the latest JRE and eclipse telling us there was no problem with uploading code, the driver station still says no robot code. The red COMM light on the Rio is also now on which I believe just says that it cannot find robot code. We used putty to SSH into the Rio and can verify that our JAR was actually there in the right location, but the log file says that: "env: can't execute '/usr/local/frc/bin/netconsole-host': No such file or directory". Looking around in the file system we can verify that indeed the file is not there. Our current plan is to try to take that file from one of our Rio's that isn't update yet and trying putting on there but we would like to know if anyone else has had this and how they solved it.

Thanks,
Team 31

Re: New RoboRio image missing code

Have you installed java on the roboRIO after updating it to the 2017 image? I do not know when the netconsole-host program would be sent to the roboRIO, I assume it would be included in the 2017 image or part of the roboRIO java install assuming that it is only used in java deployment.

Also have you confirmed your code is working? Last year I recall helping a team that just removed their PCM but did not remove the code. They had similar symptoms, the code was running but stuck in an initialization loop so the Drivers Station reported no robot code was running.

Re: New RoboRio image missing code

We are having the EXACT same problem on one of our roborios. All install steps followed to the T... but no robot code.

Thank you for posting this. We'll also try the file swap and post any updates or solutions we find.

Thumbs up Re: New RoboRio image missing code

Alright, after 7 hours of testing and experimenting we have finally fixed our problem!!! So it turns out that the netconsole-host is a big red haring and it appears that it may not be needed this year. Adding the file from the other Rio's did not help and we had to re-image again. What finally solved our problem was stupidly simple and made us all tear our hair out. It turns out that eclipse plugins regex parsing cannot tolerate special characters (included new lines, carriage returns, enters: which was our problem) in the comment section on the RoboRio webpage. After this hassle we recommend that you leave the whole section blank to save yourself a headache. (We are referring to the silverlight configuration tab on the rio - there is a box marked "comments" - empty it of everything including blank spaces)

Good luck everyone!

w o w

Nice catch. I'd definitely open an issue on their GitHub about that one.
