Two drive motors

If I have two drive motors on each side, do I need a separate Talon SRX Speed controller for each motor or can I combine the two motors for one controller? .

Re: Two drive motors

One per motor, per R35.

Quote:
R35. Each power regulating device may control electrical loads per Table 8-2. Unless otherwise noted,
each power regulating device shall control one and only one electrical load.

You can have only one motor to a motor controller. To control both motors you can split PWM wires and feed both controllers, so, motors can run at same (almost) speed

Yes you may use pwm y-splitters to control 2 motor controllers from one pwm port on the roborio.

Re: Two drive motors

Since you're using SRX's, I would definitely recommend switching to CAN bus. We used PWM last year (rookie season) with Victor 888's and had some significant issues with it. I think we ended up having to "borrow" two y-cables from other teams at our regional, because ours broke and we had no extras.

CAN has some obvious benefits, like simpler wiring and that you can get temperature and current output data back from the motor controllers.

Switching from PWM to CAN is also quite simple. It took us maybe an hour or two to figure out how to program, and the wiring is easy. It also worked on the first try, which hardly ever happens for me.
