Any restrictions on the camera?

My team plans to use a rasberry pi camera and I was wondering if there was any restrictions to what camera we are allowed to use?

Re: Any restrictions on the camera?

I don't believe there are any restrictions on what cameras you can use as long as they do not draw more than 7mbs. The 7mbs limit will be strictly enforced this year.

My understanding is that each team is automatically assigned to separate VLAN that is throttled to 7Mbps. If you choose to saturate your bandwidth with a video feed, the Field Management System has Quality of Service (QoS) implemented which will attempt to prioritize robot control over other traffic, but I wouldn't count on that.

I'd recommend configuring your camera settings to stay well under the 7Mbps or you'll likely experience lag. There are some notes from FIRST here:

Re: Any restrictions on the camera?

The bandwidth limit only applies to what goes back to the driver station. You can saturate a gigabit link from the camera back to your roboRIO all day long if you want. Granted, that would take like 25 10 megapixel cameras and your roboRIO would never be able to process that much image data.. but legal!

Don't forget the COTS parts cost restrictions as well, just in case you're considering something super fancy.

Re: Any restrictions on the camera?

The 7mbps limit is actually imposed by the radio on the robot. Yes, the traffic is VLANed, but the rate limiting is applied before the packets hit the air. The intention is to reduce the potential for wireless saturation and interference. Applying the rate limit further upstream doesn't have that effect.

How can you monitor the actual bandwidth you are using? I know when you go to 10.xx.xx.1 you can see bandwidth, but there are like four interfaces being monitored? Which one exactly is it?

It's from a few years ago, but here is a screensteps about measuring your bandwidth usage:
http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/...andwidth-usage

The majority of bandwidth tends to be taken up by camera streaming, and if you view it with the default dashboard it also displays bandwidth.
