Creating a Sub Drivers Station

In this thread we are going to discuss different ways to program a program that intercepts the data stream from an interface that one would like to use as a controller and make it so that a driver station recognizes it as a joystick/controller.

What I'm aiming to make this for first is a Novation Launchpad MK2.

A quick google search shows that Novation's own Automap software can make the Launchpad a game controller, which should work with the DS.
