is there *any* chance that..

If I started working on the Chairman's Award today that I'd get it done by the deadline? Today when I went to watch the drivers do some practice runs, my teacher approached me and asked if I thought I could do it, because she's suddenly decided she wants to submit one. I tried to tell her that everyone else has been working on theirs since.. oh, forever.. but she still wants me to do it. On top of the website, on top of strategy, and on top of scouting. On my own no less. I wanted to tell her just where to go with her crazy ideas, but first I just wanted to confirm my suspicions that it is, indeed, virtually impossible. grrr @ unorganized procrastinating teachers. what does everyone think?

to be honest i think there is a very small chance that you can get this done, not only becasue you are by yourself and the shortness of time, but also beacuse of all the other things you have going on. take it from me, i've worked on it w/ a group of people and it has taken up a large amount of my time.

Always a chance

It may not be the best , but because of the limited format (4 pages) you could probably recruit a couple of others and storyboard something that would represent a worthy effort. It sounds like you have alot on your platter, so rather than NOT doing it - just give it your best effort. Tell your story, the best you can and leverage the stuff that has been put together for other publications that your team may be doing. We put together a yearbook for each student, and an executive summary for the school admin and the management of our sponsor - alot of the same info (data) is repeated. I know this sounds impossible, considering the late date - scale it to allow yourself a reasonable effort. And as a result, your team can use it as a measuring stick, for next years attempt. Goodluck

Sure you can get it done! Haven't you ever crammed for a test before

Now, the REAL question is: are you trying to win or just trying to document what you've done? Writing 4 pages quickly is good practice for college -- just describe clearly and coherently what your team has accomplished this year. Focus on content, don't worry about fancy format or creativity.

However, if your teacher expects you to win the award -- then he/she is definitely being unrealistic. Just like cramming at the last minute usually enables you to pass but doesn't usually get you the best score in the class, so the chances of your team actually winning the chairman's award by pulling something together at the last minute is pretty poor.

But whether or not you win the award -- this information can help your team in other ways. It helps you crystalize your team goals and accomplishments and can help you talk to the judges about other awards you might be qualified for. It is information you might want to put on your website. It is great information for teams you might mentor in the future. And sponsors LOVE to see this type of stuff.

So, do the best job you can, but don't overly stress! Next week we can all sleep!

Re: is there *any* chance that..

Chairmans award submission is easy. If you know what your team is doing all you have to do is sit down and type it up.

I could do a chairmans award submission for our team in about an hour. They are not looking for poetry, they are looking for content.

think of it as a resume - if you put down what your team has done in the last year, and they have done some impressive things to get your school, sponsor and community involved with the program, if students really are inspired to pursue careers in engineering and science - thats all they want to know.

Hopefully she already finished the submission, hopefully it was about a year ago since that's when the original post was made. Please check the date of posts before you reply to them, and please let this thread go back to sleep.
