Indeo or Intel Indeo?

We've decided to go with Indeo codec instead of quicktime (due to a series of problems with encoding to QT) But here is another problem: there are 4 different Indeo codecs pre-installed on my computer:

Indeo video 5.10
Intel Indeo Video 4.5
Intel 4:2:0 Video V2.5
Intel Indeo(R) Video R3.2

The last two are outdated so the choice is left between first two. It seems that Indeo video 5.10 has a little better quality and compression rate, but is it just a new version of Intel Indeo codec Autodesk preferred in the update, ot is it a completely different one, and we should go with Intel Indeo Video 4.5 instead?

Hi Lev,

I believe that the Indeo Video 5.1 codec is a new version of the Intel Indeo codec and that it is perfectly within the guidelines of Autodesk.

The reason why the Indeo Video codec isn't endorsed by Intel is because Intel sold the rights of their codec to a company named Ligos. More information can be found here: http://www.intel.com/labs/archive/indeo.htm
and here:
http://www.ligos.com/indeo.htm

The Indeo Video 5.1 codec can be found on all modern windows pc's (I think from windows 98 and up) so there is not really a problem of Autodesk not being able to view it.

However, I can't be sure that Autodesk will accept it although I am very sure that when they said Intel Indeo codec they meant the whole Indeo line of codecs.

My animation team is encoding the animation in Quicktime because it seems to have very little quality loss. I'm using Adobe Premiere to Export Timeline as a movie and then selecting Quicktime. See if that works for you.

Well, I hope that helps! Good luck on shipping your animation!

GO WITH 5.1!!!!!! The other ones are horrible for compression. Unlike its predecessors, 5.1 actually works very well.

Did anyone use an MPEG-4 avi? I did and I hope it fits the rules. It seemed to be okay according to what I read in the rules and in the forum. Help....
Thanks,
