And once more from the top... GLORIA! GEFORCE 3! AND OTHER CARDS...

Hmm... I was thinking along the lines of how some card makers add new tricks, with code and chips, that are not usually available in the standard openGL library. Some of this code and rewiring may not function correctly with the 3DS MAX rendering code, and so causes the freezes. HEIDI usually works just fine, granted it would be nice to use a card. Take a look at this link:

http://www.journeyed.com/cgi-bin/sgs...EN9=index2.htm

All of these cards, especially the high-end 3D LABS and ELSA cards, should work just fine with rendering in 3DS MAX. Notice that there are no GeForce3 cards on there. Those cards are specifically designed for games while these are workhorses, and MUCH more expensive. Then again, I could be wrong, as I dont have either of these cards to test (wish I did), but I do know that at the Art Institute they have ELSA Gloria cards in all of thier systems, and MAX runs like a dream.

So just consider your options, how much you have to spend, and do research on what works and doesnt work before buying yourself a video card for MAX rendering.

TTFN, and happy rendering!

okaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

here is what you need

get rivatuner, do a search on it. once you have that, run the soft quadro patch on yer drivers. if you have a geforce 3, is should now be called a "quadro 2 DCC". then you go to discreet's site, and get the drivers for the quardro cards. wallah, max is running 1337! now if you have a geforce 2, im not sure it will work the same way, as i am not familier with the origonal quadro. here is the thing. under win2k, at least, max will crash when you attempt to use opengl, and freez with direct 3d, leveing you only with HEDI. ugh. so try these haxz. now i havent done this, cause i dont use max enough to make hacking my drivers worth it, but this will help alot of you. the quadro drivers are tight
