Antiback-drive Pins
Is it OK to leave the Antiback-drive pins in the drill transmissions or should they be removed?
It seems to me that in the past these pins were removed from the supplied drill transmissions but the ones we got this year still have them in place. |

It is definitely ok to remove them. We removed them and then never had a single problem.

I've never taken the pins out.
I prefer to be dead weight if something stops the robot from moving under its own power. I also like to be able to sit on a ramp with no power. And I like the braking effect when resting the motors in a pushing match. that all being said. Many many teams do take them out with no mechanical difficulties Just killing time until we can get a new control box in our hands.... |

Youre right... There really should be some kind of distinction on the portal page.

DOH! It has almost gotten me before but now it has. Oops. There does need to be a clearer distinction for OCCRA stuff.

Pins or no pins, that is the question...
There is no rule about the pins: it's completely your choice; we took them out the first year or two as a service to teams since most wanted it that way and many, especially new teams, did not know the technique. It was mainly for the convenience of moving the 'bot around without power, but also there was some who felt the drills & transmissions would last longer without the pins. We do not routinely do it anymore but we will still assist anybody who needs it done.
