Mini-QotW

OK, I don't mean to impose here but I'm posting my own Mini-QotW this week, with written consent from M. (Which means you know who to blame!)


After countless hours of thought over and over, mainly "Why am I here?" this one question has stood out in my mind. I suppose this a little selfish, I'm hoping these answers will help me in my own personal quest. However, you may choose freely to respond or ignore.

Mini-Question of the Week 10-03-03: What have you gotten out of FIRST that you consider very important to you? In your growth as a person?

I'm hoping to find out what FIRST has done for a wide range of individuals and compare it to what it's done for me, let the answers fly!

Oye... where can I start,

I only know about FIRST because of my sophomore Algebra 2 class. A senior in the class forced me to switch seats with him because I sat closer to his friends than he did... i didn't mind switching.

I switched into a seat that was right next to a kid who found math too easy, and he was on Buzz at the other high school in my town. He told me about FIRST.

So from a confused high schooler who didn't know what she wanted to do with her life... she is now the key person in organizing a huge offseason competiton with a kind of certainty that she'll here back from DEKA with a coop job offer next week. I'm at a school I love (only know about NU cuz their team won nats in 2001), I enjoy engineering, and I'm doing things I enjoy... with a world of opportunity at my fingertips.

I'll say this again... FIRST did everything possible for me that was good, and I'll stick by that.

It has allowed me to network myself. I know people from around the country, and people around the country know me. There is no other program that provides such networking so quickly. Life is all about connections, that is what will get you somewhere.

The other main thing FIRST has done for me is to make life without it seem boring and dull. That is why so many of us are so committed.

Without FIRST, I'd be staring at the ceiling making friends with shadows on my wall - just like Matchbox Twenty.

Like I mentioned in that thread, FIRST motivates my life in one way or another. Very little motivates me in a similar way.

I noticed that thread but this question isn't exactly the same, and I'd like to get some answers here, you guys still awake?
