Who Practiced To Be HP?

Here Ken...

Who actually spent the time to make a goal and practice during the build?

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

Team 710 built a half field and had 3-4 people practicing. Our bot is designed to cap and hang.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

Our human player used an older, smaller goal with the newer, larger balls to practice. He did so often --- equal to, if not more than, the amount of time our drivers spent practicing. He did his job well, and is an essential part of this year's drive team. He rarely missed. Rarely.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

there were about 3 to 4 people who were picked to be the human player after trying outs... they have been practicing... since i am the mechanical lead of my team i really didnt have time for the try out... but i have practiced a quiet while to be a good human player for FIRST FRENZY... i will be called up if anything happens with the human players...

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

We built a goal along with a section of the playing field. We had about eight students practicing who wanted to be HP's when they didn't have anything else to do and when we could secure the gym or auditorium to set up the field. Three of the students were shooting 80% and better including one of the girls.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

I have, for maybe three hours or so. My team did try outs and I had the highest shooting percentage, and I've practiced twice since then, which isn't nearly as much as I would have liked but time is scarce while trying to keep up in school since I'll be missing.

I'm going the soccer throw (overhead) route, and it's been treating me rather well. Best I've done is fourteen in a row, since thats as many balls as I had to practice with. Hopefully I'll have time to practice/perfect my throw on thursday, and that I won't screw up during a match...

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

i was forced... yes forced lol to practice from my coach (i hate you rick =P j/k) ubvt we did have about 5 HP canidates, we had a "showdown" and narrowed it down to 2 on #1 me & #2 my backup... after that every night i shot at least 50-100 times with ONLY the competition ball and helped out a lot IMO

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

From what I saw at the regionals, if some of the HPs had practiced a little more alot of outcomes would have been difrent. At our (NW Regional) alot of games were decided by no more than 5 or 10 points, and alot of shooters were only making 60%. Thankfully we were making 90% from alot of hard hard practice.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

Actually, I'm not the HP, but I'll respond for our HP, since he doesn't have an account here. He practiced probably every other day until the last week, when he practiced every day.

Boy, that was a badly written post.

--EDIT--
One of the dad's on our team is a carpenter kind of guy (can't remember exactally what he does) and he built the whole field for us.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

I didn't really pracitice all of that much to be Human PLayer. A couple of our members did. One practiced religously, when he wasn't able to help with the programming in the field room he would of been throwing the ball over and over again. I never saw him practice, but, i have yet to see him miss a goal.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

639 built half a field (pic is uploaded on CD) and those people who were interested in HP practiced about 30 min a day for each day of winter break (week before last week of build)

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

You know what really sucks. We work at a powerplant, and our goals were up on this turbine deck. So we would go up there and shoot. One of I team members, who thinks he is cool, too a wizz of the edge of the deck. Now the whole team was banned from going up there. I probably shot 100 ball, at the max. However, I made 97 of the 100 balls I shot.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

From what I've heard, 93's human player is awesome. He's a freshman basketball player and practiced a LOT. One night, he made 150 shots in a row without missing one! He also happens to be ChellyZee's little brother. Talk to him if you see him at St. Louis, Midwest or Nationals -- he's a pretty cool kid!

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

I'm going to speak for our team's three HP's. We built 3/4 of the field and they spent many evenings practicing. They shot > 90% at the PNW Regional.

Re: Who Practiced To Be HP?

Our Team had Drive Team tryouts shortly after kickoff. We worked hard on getting our human players to shoot in both goals. We used a pipe that just so happened to be 7 foot high as a marking point for the 7 foot high wall in front of the ball corral. We practiced every drive team practice and everyone practiced with the varsity and jv human players we split the team into regardless of whether they held one of the human player positions. Our team percentage was quite high and everyone by the end could make over 60% of their shots from my observations.
