Apologies from Team 25

Quote:
Quoted by boodah

So we are up vs. you, i go to knock u guys off the movable goal, i hit ya, go back in again, then you flip on to us. And they are stuck. Sorry to all of MOE, had no intention of getting hooked on, it just happened, and we needed the win. Past that you guys did pretty good.

Past that, with 1403 and 11, we actually won a match with 2 broken hangers, was pretty funny, and a lot of fun.

All in all, it was a great comp. Run very smoothly, no real delays, refs made great judgement calls.

And congrats on the great set upof the comp and then winning it 222! Simply amazing.

Apologies to those whose robots we caused damage etc., it was totally unintentional. We try to be as gentle on the controls as we can, but sometimes its just uncontrolable.

A little additional to add to this- the round has been eating at me all night too,

In the earlier round where our machine was trying to hang with Miss Daisy and the two hanging robots got entangled our arm's electrical system somehow got crimped, shorted out and melted the entire lead system. As a result we only had two ranges of motion- vertical twist and the shoulder lift arc- no elbow to close the angle joint. And with time flying between rounds we made the decision to leave the immobile joint as an L and try to use it to uncap the goals and the base to run interference as much as possible. It may have appeared that we were playing with a "weapon of death" but that really wasn't the intention. Frankly, it never occurred to us until later that a few zip ties across the hook would make it "weedless"
Anyway, in the aforementioned round, the robots came out and our machine got into the fray with Gizmoe over the rolling goal and big ball. In the excitement that hook just angled into an edge of the frame and when the EM moved, Gizmoe landed on top of it, mangling the hook inextricably from the mass. Invisible from the driver station, the drivers tried all manner of turning and pulling but the machines wouldn't separate.
I'm (we're) sorry if this was misunderstood as an effort to destroy other robots or anything unsportsmanlike. It was simply an attempt of a team with a grossly damaged robot to stay in the game and do the best they could with what was left of their machine. With only a drive base and a broken arm there really wasn't much more a team could do except push balls and run interference.

We really did not mean to hurt anybody, or show any unsportsmanship like efforts. The damage we caused was totally unintentional. We love all FIRST teams, so we wouldnt do anything to cause tension between us. I know our robot base is a bit too powerful for this years game, so we cannot really control is at times. Sometimes from the player station we cannot really judge what our robot is doing. We just wished to stay in the game, even with a damaged robot, and not damage other robots on the field. It just so hapenned. We are extremely sorry, let us know if we can do anything to cover up for that

Thanks,
TeknoBramha(Bharat)

p.s: I do realize I am posting this in General section, but it just never let me get a good nights sleep without apologising.

Re: Apologies from Team 25

My apology up there, wasnt a very good one, so ill make a better one now,

I am deeply sorry if i hurt anyones feeling by this. As Cokeley said, we were a broken robot, just trying to get a shot at staying in the game. And we never had any intention going into the match of harming such a great team like MOE.

Re: Apologies from Team 25

Our Robot broke, it fell on team 25 and they got cought in us, that is something that happens at comptitions off season or regular season. The Robot can be fixed just like after any mishap in any match, I still had a great time at PARC and I understand now what happened, after i talked to 25's drivers and they showed me what happened to there bot also. I personaly have no bad feelings towards team 25, things happen and sometimes there not always what you want to happen, I cant wait to see them again at other off season comps.

Congrats to 222 for holding such a great comp and doing so good in it.

Re: Apologies from Team 25

Hey,

From what I observed, the situation was a mutual misunderstanding... and I'm proud of everyone here who is apologizing for the mishap. MOE's robot wasn't covered as-such that hooks and grabbers couldn't get caught, and 25 had a such a powerful drive-base that raised eyebrows all day long... so a situation of some sort was inevitable.

I was impressed with the communication between the two teams from across the field (although it was screaming & yelling ), but at least you guys tried to get the word to the other team to stop moving around. There was no visible malicious intent from either team, sometimes things 'just get caught-up,' so I wouldn't feel bad about it. It's the nature of the game.

Re: Apologies from Team 25

I know how you feel, about apologizing... In our team's first year, we accidentally disabled our first alliance team at Championships- we still feel really bad about it, and this was 2 years ago!
I think that it's really great that you guys are taking the time to apologize- and it's also good that you admit your mistakes, instead of the old standard, "I didn't do it."
Also know- The teams go into the competition knowing that accidents happen. Don't feel bad about this- mistakes happen, even to the best of us. (As unbelievable as it is... )

Re: Apologies from Team 25

I'm glad to see such gracious professionalism after what had happened with these two bots. Us (team 11), as well as 25, had a broken hanging mechanism. Us and 25, both using CIMs and drill drive trains, were paired with 1403 in the elims. Pretty funny to see two bots that only drove, win a match. But back to what i said, i'm really glad to see everyone now understanding what happened. this is what FIRST is all about...

Re: Apologies from Team 25

I wonder if this is as bad as what happened at Ramp Riot with the 2002 competition when MOE's arm got ripped off by us while trying to push back one of the goals they were holding. I still have that MOE Mauler award lol. That neon green must attract attention to battle damage or something.

Mike:

Yes, the good ole MOE MAULER award. I believe the reason why we did not resurrect that award is because we did not want teams "gunning for us" just to get the award. With MOEHawk in 2002, we expected teams to be coming after us based on our strategy.

You guys earned the award then. Ouch. I remember looking at that arm and actually feeling the pain.

Re: Apologies from Team 25

We really appreciate you guys forgiving us and not taking things to heart. It makes me feel that these kinda incidents help us grow closer to each other. I hope we did not cause too much damage to your robot, and I hope it's fixable in good time(Unlike us, every part of our robot is damaged).

I still do not understand why anybody would apologize for something like this. Robots get damaged all the time in FIRST, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. This was obviously not intentional.
