Anyone go see A.I. yet?

Just wondering. After all, aint robotics our biggest hobby? Anyways, I just wanted to see what everyone here thought about it. I just got back from the movie and I was perplexed at times by it. I thought it was really intriguing (sp?) but at the end it kinda, well, go see the movie and youll see what i mean. Some people walked out crying, some laughing, and some, well, just plain puzzled.

Okay, Im not going to ruin this movie for you guys (and hopefuly no other posters will). Go see it and let everyone know what you thought of it...

Is it me or does this movie sound strikingly family to "My name is Pinochio...I wanna be a real boy." We take some computer geeks instead of Gepetto and a computer simulation of a boy instead of our old friend Pinochio...and whalla Speilberg thinks he has a multi-billion dollar movie. Oh and let's not forget young star Haley-Joe-whatever his name is. So I won't be seeing this movie...because I think that people should see through it for the rip it is.

From the little bit that I have read, it was supposed to be a Kubrick film. He did a lot of work with it and had a screenplay of some sort. He also consulted with Speilberg quite a bit.

Once Kubrick died, his family asked Speilberg to finish the film.

One thing I read said that it had all the best parts of both Kubrick and Speilberg, and another said it had the worst of both

Anyone planning on going, don't bring a kid, it can be disturbing at times for the little ones.

My wife and I got a chance to go see it. I really liked it. The Pinnochio theme is there, but there is much more to it than that.

As we walked out, some people around us were saying stuff like "that really sucked"... but oh, well... it's not for everyone.

Of course, I liked it because of the robotics, and I'm a nut for movies that make you think, especially the sci-fi type. Also, this movie depicts the unconditional love of a child very well. As a parent, that hit me very hard.

As for the history of this movie, Kubrick worked on this for 15 years, but could never get past a few tricky parts... he was a perfectionist. If you saw the movie, there are some parts that have loopholes, but Spielberg made it work. It's 2001-ish (the movie), and drags a bit toward the end... but it's worth it.

Of course, the special effects are awesome.

I liked the movie. And as far as I heard about this Kubrick/Spielberg thing, the first and last act was mostly done by Kubrick, and the whole middle of the movie was done by Spielberg. But I was told this by one of my friends, and he has been known to be wrong. The end kinda confused me, and I almost think they could've done without it, but at least it ended on a happier note than it otherwise would have. And, since I love Disney, there's nothing wrong with Pinnochio. But, anywho, I thought it was a pretty good movie.

i went and saw it, and i didn't think it was all that great. i thought it was a really cool concept and everything, but the whole storyline just didn't do it for me. but the whole idea of it was pretty cool.

Well, I went and saw AI on the first weekend it opened, just like I did with Bicentennial Man and Solo (you don't remember Solo? look here: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0117688 ) when they opened not so long ago. (For the record, I liked Bicentennial Man and hated Solo, but they're all basically Short Circuit in sheep's clothing.) I too enjoy Kubrick films - Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket and Dr. Strangelove are among my favorites, and who doesn't like Steven Spielberg?

But what can I say, the movie bored me. I was one of those people who, when discussing A.I. in the parking lot, said, "It sucked".

What I should have said was, "I'm not sure, but I think it sucked", because, the more that I think of the film, the less convinced I am of its full-fledged suckitude. Osment gives a great performance, and the Flesh Fair in the movie's second act has all of the best aspects of a Battlebots episode (as well as a great five-second Chris Rock cameo), but it seems to be in a completely different movie.

And the ending annoyed me. But the ending to 2001 annoys me, and everybody seems to just love that one.

If you dig on robots, Kubrick, Spielberg, and.... uh .... antiepiphenomalism, go see it.

If you think I should shut my big fat face, that's your opinion, and I respectfully disagree. :)

was anyone else utterly confused when they cut to the scene with "joe" and the lady? The entire theater was laughing when we got to that point.

Other than that 3 or 4 minutes of confusion, i thought the movie was good.. although they definitely dragged the movie on.. i didn't get out of the theater until after midnight.

thats what i was wondering too... i think they were robots... but its just my opinion.

They were robots, maybe alien robots. The point was that they had never seen a biological creature. The super-robot also had the worst line in the movie: "We can only bring back people that we dig up from the ice." Maybe that's why there's no dialogue at the end of 2001: they couldn't come up with anything that struck the right balance between telling people what was going on and not sounding stupid.
